Ellie Goulding Confirms She’s Not Dating And She’s Not Quitting Music

Ellie Goulding is setting the record straight when it comes to her personal life and her professional life. The British pop star is Seventeen’s April, 2016, cover girl where she opens up about her past relationships.

The 29-year-old singer also addressed the dating rumors about One Direction member Niall Horan and singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. Goulding and Horan first sparked the romance rumors in 2013 when they were spotted on a few dates. They reunited in December, 2015, at 106.1’s KISS FM’s Jingle Ball, but Goulding claims they’re just good friends.

“We’re still friends. We went on a few dates, and it was really fun. He’s a really, really lovely guy. He’s got the biggest sense of humor, he’s very caring, and I see him as a genuine friend in the industry.”

Goulding and Sheeran also had the rumor mill talking in 2013 when they were spotted holding hands at the MTV VMAs. He then went on to write the hit single “Don’t” about the singer, although it was never confirmed. Meanwhile, Goulding denied the romance rumors while Sheeran insisted that there was something “going on” between them. The “Love Me Like You Do” star told Seventeen that there was never anything romantic about their relationship.

“We’ve known each other for a few years. I think he’s a really nice guy and a brilliant musician. We’ve bumped into each other and we’ve hung out and stuff, but the thing is if I hang out with someone, it’s instantly like I’m ‘dating’ them. We were never in a relationship.”

Goulding also previously said in a 2015 interview with Elle U.K. that she and Horan went on a “few dates” and that Sheeran and her were “never in a relationship.”

Then in 2014, Ellie went on to date McFly’s Dougie Poynter. Rumors then swirled that she was ending her music career shortly after their split. Ellie took to Twitter to address those pesky rumors.

This comes after the Sun report, which claimed that Ellie revealed to the British tabloid that she has plans to leave the music industry to get over her recent heartbreak.

“People think I’m invincible but these past few weeks have been tough. When you’re in the public eye, it seems like you’re able to deal with stuff better than anyone else, which is not remotely true.”

The singer previously announced that she was taking a break from making music after her Delirium World Tour ends in October. “I need time off for my own head. Next year I need to live a bit. Who knows? My situation has changed,” Goulding openly and honestly admitted.

Some of her fans assumed that her career decision was prompted by her split from on-again, off-again boyfriend Poynter.

“I’m not in a relationship anymore and that’s been hard. Having a break will be a good thing for me and my head. I’m not writing new stuff. I’m not sure when I’ll release a new album.”

Despite their bitter breakup, Goulding says that Poynter is one of her best friends, adding that he still feels the same way about her. Maybe there’s some hope for a reconciliation someday.

“Dougie is a really special person. He’s one of the most special people in the world and I’m so happy for him he’s doing so well in LA and he’s still one of my best friends and I know he feels the same.”

Goulding and Poynter have dated for two years since ending their relationship last month, due their careers keeping them apart in different countries.
