Charlie Hunnam Tells Bullying Fans To Leave His Girlfriend Alone

Charlie Hunnam is speaking out about bullying fans who’ve been attacking his longtime girlfriend on social media. According to Entertainment Weekly, Hunnam posted a message to his very vocal female fans, who seem to have a problem with his girlfriend, Morgana McNelis. The 35-year-old Sons of Anarchy actor questioned why fans would attack his lady love out of “admiration for me? It makes no sense.”

Some of Charlie Hunnam’s fans have attacked McNelis’ appearance and have trashed the couple’s relationship. In his message, which you can see in full on the fan site SOAFanatic, Hunnam appealed to fans to stop bullying his girlfriend.

“I would respectfully ask you to stop doing this. She is an intelligent, beautiful, kind person who just tried to live a simple life and has nothing to do with the entertainment industry. If you want to talk sh*r, talk s*t– about me, leave her out of it. What is most confusing is that these negative and totally unprovoked attacks appear to be coming from the people who call themselves my fans.”

Hunnam and McNelis have been together for more than a decade. In his post, the hunky British actor reminded naysayers that his girlfriend was by his side long before he had any money or anyone knew who he was. Charlie Hunnam is best known for his role as Jax Teller on FX’s Sons of Anarchy, which he played from 2008 to 2014.

Hunnam went on to explain how important Morgana is to him and to question why his true fans would have a problem with the woman who makes him happy.

“This is a girl I love very much and have spent the last 11 years of my life with and hope to spend the next 60 years. She has been my loyal and supportive partner long before I had any success or money. Why would you attack her out of admiration for me? It makes no sense.”

Charlie Hunnam was forced to defend another woman in his life, too. Because Hunnam doesn’t maintain any social media accounts of his own, he actually gave the message about his girlfriend to his longtime friend Tina Lou, who manages his Facebook page. When Lou received backlash over the post from followers who didn’t believe it was from Charlie, the actor had her post a video (see below) to prove the message was from him. Charlie also chastised haters for doing the direct opposite of what he was trying to convey. Hunnam appealed to fans to “try to be a little more kind.”

“I don’t do social media … the genesis of it was a way to create a forum for people to make new friends … to express different ideas … not as a new forum for bullying which seems unfortunately to be an unpleasant side effect of it.”

Charlie Hunnam’s girlfriend Morgana later took to her own Facebook page to thank everyone who said kind words in her defense. The jewelry designer revealed that “the outpouring of positivity gave me courage to keep being vulnerable and to continue to put myself and my designs out into the universe.” McNelis also said she was comforted to know that there are many compassionate women in the world who will support each other. And what about that boyfriend, right?
