Wilmer Valderrama To Have Multi-Episode Role On Season 12 Of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Wilmer Valderrama will be returning to television as he will be cast as Kyle Diaz on the hit show Grey’s Anatomy during Season 12. According to Variety, Valderrama’s multi-episode appearance will begin in early April. It’s unclear what Wilmer’s role will be as the show is playing it extremely close to the vest. It also remains to be seen how many episodes Valderrama has filmed for his role.

Valderrama currently star’s on El Rey Network’s From Dusk Til Dawn which just got renewed for its third season. Wilmer previously starred on FOX’s Minority Report before it was recently cancelled after only 10 episodes. Wilmer has also appeared in guest spots on a number of shows — including Raising Hope, Suburgatory and Royal Pains, but Valderrama is best known for his role as Fez on the 1990s comedy That ’70s Show.

Wilmer will be joining his longtime girlfriend, Demi Lovato, as an alumni of the show as the latter appeared as a patient on a Season 6 episode. Valderrama and Lovato having been dating since 2010, right around the same time she appeared on the show. Lovato played Hayley May, a psych patient who was falsely diagnosed with schizophrenia.

A year after appearing on the show, Lovato was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Valderrama has stood by her side the entire time and helped her as she’s battled the mental health disease. Demi even went as far as to say Wilmer Valderrama saved her life.

“He (Valderrama) never takes credit for my sobriety, but I guarantee I wouldn’t be alive without him today,” Lovato told HuffPost Live in May 2015.

In the years since her appearance, Lovato has become an activist for mental health awareness and created a campaign in 2015 called Be Vocal: Speak Up For Mental Health. The campaign joined five mental health organizations to help raise awareness.

“I’m living well with my mental illness – I am actually functioning like a very happy person would,” Lovato told PEOPLE during an interview in 2015. “I couldn’t be happier today. Life is really, really great. I have a brand-new puppy and I’m able to not only take care of myself but take care of him as well. I’m living my dream. Life is pretty amazing.”

During an appearance on Entertainment Tonight in 2010, Lovato spoke about how much she loved her role on the show.

“This is kind of like my dream role on my dream TV show,” Lovato said.

Valderrama and Lovato will now be able to discuss appearing on one of television’s most successful shows of all time over dinner. Although the two have certainly had other successful ventures in their professional careers, Wilmer and Demi now share something in common.

E! is speculating that Valderrama could possibly be brought in to date lead character Meredith, played by Ellen Pompeo. Wilmer has had plenty of experience playing the eye candy on different shows and seeing Pompeo and Valderrama as a couple is certainly a possibility if you listen to context clues.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Pompeo revealed some interesting details about a potential love interest for the show’s main character.

“We’re moving toward Meredith dating again, so everyone has to get ready for it,” she said. “I can tell you that I’ve shot a few scenes, although I don’t know where they’re going to go, but I have shot a few scenes, and I’m very happy and excited with the way this is unfolding. It’s exciting for Meredith, and it’s some happiness, some light. I hope we get to keep going to down that path.”

Meredith has yet to date since being forced to pull the plug on Derek in Season 11 after he was involved in a car accident. Following that difficult decision, she left Grey Sloan Memorial, only to return after the birth of her daughter, Ellis.

Through the heartache that she’s been dealing with, Meredith has struggled with the thought of returning to the dating scene. It would make perfect sense to add Wilmer to fill that role, but it’s also entirely possible Valderrama will end up as a surgeon, patient, or in some other role.

Will Valderrama become Meredith’s love interest? Or will Wilmer end up with another role on the show? Either way, Grey’s Anatomy fans will be getting a dose of Wilmer Valderrama in a few weeks.
