After Grand Torino in 2008, Clint Eastwood flirted with the idea of retirement. And no one would have blamed him. He was 78-years-old at the time and had amassed a body of work that just about every living actor is jealous of. But apparently there’s just no stopping Eastwood. The 82-year-old actor is heading back to the silver screen for his new movie, Trouble With The Curve.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Eastwood’s decision to return to acting was heavily influenced by Trouble with the Curve director Robert Lorenz. Lorenz has been Eastwood’s right hand man on several movies (Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, Blood Work, Space Cowboys, True Crime, Absolute Power…) so when he approached Eastwood about starring in a new baseball movie, Eastwood stepped out of his unofficial retirement and stepped back in front of the camera.

EW reports that this is the first time that Eastwood has starred in a movie directed by someone other than himself in nearly 20 years. The last time Eastwood was directed by someone else was in 1993 when he starred in John Lee Hancock’s A Perfect World. 

In the new movie, Eastwood plays an aging baseball scout who brings his reluctant daughter, Amy Adams, on a recruiting trip.

Lorenz said:

“He gets his chance to prove whether he still has value as a scout—and as a dad… They’re having trouble communicating. They always have, and now they’ve come to a point in the relationship where it’s either going to change or it’s not. He needs a little help, and she decides it’s worth the effort.”

The movie also stars John Goodman and Justin Timberlake, who plays an up-and-coming baseball scout.
