Blake Shelton To Release ‘Came Here To Forget’ Tuesday, Offers Intimate Glimpse Into His Feelings

Country artist and The Voice coach Blake Shelton is set to release his newest single, “Came Here to Forget,” on Tuesday. According to his website, it will be Shelton’s first new music in 18 months — the first since his divorce from Miranda Lambert and new romance with Gwen Stefani.

“Came Here to Forget,” written by Craig Wiseman and Deric Ruttan, is “an intimate snapshot of a couple’s encounter at a bar.” The song holds a special place in Blake Shelton’s heart because he says it is a “direct look” into his own life. It sounds like fans can expect their most intimate glimpse into Shelton’s feelings yet.

“I’ve had a lot of music over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a song before that’s such a direct look into my life. That’s why I’m so excited about this particular song.”

Shelton told his Twitter followers that it was also the first time in his career he has filmed a music video long before the song was released.

Blake Shelton revealed to ET that his new music was fueled by the emotional ups and downs he has experienced this past year. “Came Here to Forget” is the first single from Blake Shelton’s much-anticipated upcoming album.

“It is all on the record. I can put my life experience, whether it’s a divorce or my new girlfriend, whatever those experiences are, whatever things that are happening in my life, I have an outlet for them. I have music.”

When Country Countdown USA asked Blake Shelton late last year if he did much of the writing for his newest album, he said he did more writing than he has done in many years.

“I have, I’ve written more than I’ve written in 15 years, for obvious reasons, all the awful things that have happened in my personal life, but the way the year ended is also the greatest of my life.”

Blake Shelton went on to say he’s never felt as connected to a record as he does to this one.

“I’m doing what I’m supposed to do, and that’s put all I’ve gone through and put it into music, and I never felt more connected to a record before. When people hear this record, they may not know what happened to me, but they’re gonna know how I felt about it. And that’s exciting for me, to just lay it out there for people.”

Kelly Clarkson and Blake’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, both voiced their support for the new album on Twitter. Clarkson raved, “The whole new album is amazing! Can’t wait for everyone to hear it!” Stefani then gushed about how good it is, bragging that she was the first to hear it.

In addition to working on his new music and filming The Voice, Blake Shelton has been busy on his Blake Shelton 2016 tour. The Oklahoma native has even found time to help launch a brand of vodka, Smithworks Vodka.

Watch Blake Shelton Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET on NBC’s The Voice. You can also see him as host of Nickelodeon’s 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards March 12.
