Lebron James: We Would Beat The Dream Team

Kobe Bryant started a non-nonsensical debate earlier this month when he said that the 2012 USA Men’s Basketball team would beat the Dream Team. Since then, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley have all called out for the Lakers star for his ridiculous claim. Well, now Kobe has someone in his corner.

Lebron James said today that the 2012 USA Team would beat the 1992 Dream Team.

But James’ wasn’t really boasting about being the better team. He was just talking as a competitor. And if you ask a competitor if they think they can win, the answer is always going to be yes.

James said:

“As a competitor you never want to say that you will lose no matter who you are going against… The ’92 Dream Team paved the way for all of us… We understand what they did for our game, but we also are big time competitors as well so if we got the opportunity to play them in a game we feel like we would win too.”

Which is why this debate makes no sense. Could you imagine Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, or any of the other players on the 2012 USA Men’s Olympic Basketball conceding and saying that the Dream Team would win? It’s never going to happen. Just like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird are never going to admit that there’s a chance, even if it’s a tiny sliver of a chance, that they could lose.

But, since everyone wants to talk about it. Who do you think would win? The Dream Team or the 2012 USA Men’s Basketball Team? Do you think the men’s team this year will win a gold at the 2012 London Olympics?
