Inside ‘Bachelor’ Ben Higgins’ Proposal: The Ring, The Heartbreak, The Final Rose Drama

Bachelor Ben Higgins journey to find love ends in an emotional proposal on March 14, but the it’s the departure of this season’s runner-up that will have fans grabbing for a box of tissues. Host Chris Harrison promises every season finale will be the “most dramatic” in the show’s history, and there is no doubt that Ben’s final rose ceremony will be one for the record books.

The rumors will finally come to an end on March 14, when the Bachelor Season 20 finale airs on ABC. The three-hour event starts at 8 p.m. ET and includes Ben’s final dates with JoJo Fletcher and Lauren Bushnell, a conversation with his parents about falling in love with both ladies, a tear-jerker of a rose ceremony, and the live After the Final Rose special.

And the Neil Lane engagement ring Ben picks for his bride-to-be? Picking it out is yet another tear-filled moment for Ben. [Spoilers ahead]

In ABC‘s sneak peek video below, Ben is talks to his parents about his love for JoJo and Lauren and is obviously confused about who to give the final rose to. With the help of his family, Ben considers the pros and cons of both relationships, or at least that’s what producers lead fans to believe.

In the latest issue of Us Weekly, the magazine’s insider states that Ben was “torn up” about who to choose right up until the morning of the season finale. Although he has confirmed that he is engaged, the moments leading up to the proposal were rough for the runner-up, rumored to be JoJo Fletcher.

“The breakup scene, taped just hours before his engagement, was devastating… the woman he sent home was a total wreck.”

After struggling over which ring to pick, spoilers indicate that Ben then had to face JoJo in a romantic and engagement-worthy setting at the Sandals Royal Plantation resort in Jamaica. Any hopes she had of getting the Neil Lane diamond ring that was in his pocket were dashed minutes after she stood in front of him. Us Weekly‘s insider states that Ben told her, “I do love you. I mean that. There’s just somebody else.”

Apparently she wasn’t angry about his decision, but was understandably upset. Ben told Us during an interview at the taping of the Women Tell All special about breaking it off, that it was “tough to break up with someone you love.”

Although sending JoJo home will make for an especially dramatic season-ender, blogger Reality Steve states that Ben knew that he wanted to pick Lauren B. “half way through” the season. The hype surrounding Ben loving two women could be something that was manipulated by producers, with Steve noting that every season ends in a conflict of some kind to give the show a ratings boost.

“Every season this show has to come up with a way at the end to keep people guessing on who the lead chooses… For Kaitlyn’s it was having sex with her final 2 guy and making a huge deal out of it. For Desiree it was dealing with Brooks leaving. For Ben it’s the two ‘I love yous.’ The list goes on and on.”

Despite the spoilers and rumors surrounding the show, the Bachelor finale is still must-see TV for die-hard fans of ABC’s long-running reality show. Although it appears that the spoilers will turn out to be correct this season and Lauren B. will be the winner, there’s always a chance that the show will end in a big surprise.

Reality Steve‘s spoilers have been wrong before including shocking ending on both Desiree Hartsock and Ali Fedotowsky’s season of the Bachelorette. WetPaint reports that Steve also got the ending wrong for both of Brad Womack’s seasons of the Bachelorette, and had to correct his prediction on Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season when when a Snapchat of Kaitlyn and Shawn surfaced on Twitter. He initially stated that Kaitlyn would dump both Shawn and Nick, but we all know how that turned out.

Wil viewers see Ben get down on one knee and propose to Lauren Bushnell, or will there be a season finale shocker? If they are engaged, they certainly have done a good job of keeping their post-filming meet-ups a secret. Fans will finally get to see the couple on the live After the Final Rose special that will air right after Ben hands out his final rose on March 14.
