Kendrick Lamar Latest Project, ‘Untitled Unmastered,’ Leaked Ahead Of Release Date

Kendrick Lamar has recently dropped his latest project, Untitled Unmastered, featuring eight untitled tracks, and the rapper’s fans (including LeBron James) went crazy, according to the Verge.

Kendrick Lamar’s new Untitled Unmastered album is available on Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, and Tidal. However, it’s not an “album” as such — it’s rather a “project,” according to the official release description. The project consists of eight untitled tracks originally recorded in 2013 and 2014.

Those tracks are said to be “warm-up” tracks for his latest album To Pimp A Butterfly, which was released in March 2015. Spotify was the first one to leak Kendrick Lamar’s Untitled Unmastered on Thursday. Each of the tracks has the word “untitled” and a series of dates and nothing else.

It’s as yet unknown whether the leak was accidental, but it’s not the first time Kendrick Lamar’s music has been leaked on the internet. His last album, To Pimp A Butterfly, was leaked eight days ahead of its scheduled release date. Lamar’s official management then blamed the leak on Interscope Records, while TDE CEO Anthony Tiffith “thanked” Interscope personally via Twitter.

“I would personally like to thank Interscope for f***ing up our release.”

However, in the case of Kendrick Lamar’s Untitled Unmastered project, Tiffith hinted in one of his Instagram photos this week that there would be “a surprise release” from TDE, but another project from Lamar was the last thing the fans expected.

“Ive decided 2 drop a project 1 day this week. I won’t say wut day or who. It cud be 2nite So don’t ask me jus stay close to the net.”

The latest project is just a minor release of eight tracks rather than a fully-fledged follow-up album to Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, which earned the rapper five Grammy awards last month, including Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, and Best Rap Collaboration.

Kendrick Lamar’s onstage performances of “The Blacker The Berry” and “Alright” during the Grammy Awards last month only further convinced fans that the rapper’s latest album was the best rap and hip-hop release of 2015.

In his latest interview with 2 Dope Boyz, Kendrick Lamar revealed that he had some mysterious “chamber of material” that he held back from the album due to clearance issues. However, some of those “materials” have been used during his performances on late night talk shows as well as on stage of Grammys.

“I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love with where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album.”

Kendrick Lamar added that there were about 10 songs, which he is “in love with” and which he would still like to perform. It looks like his Untitled Unmastered project is that “chamber of material” he was talking about.

Apparently, LeBron James is one of Kendrick Lamar’s biggest fans. The basketball star was super excited after the Grammy-winning rapper released his latest project Untitled Unmastered on Thursday, according to the Bleacher Report.

Last week, LeBron James tweeted that he anticipated a new project from Top Dawg Entertainment. And the record label’s CEO responded to James with a video on the day of the release, telling Kendrick Lamar’s fans to thank the basketball player for the release.

James then tweeted “Blue Faces!” shortly after Untitled Unmastered’s release.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated seems a little worried about Kendrick Lamar’s height. The sports news source noted the “staggering” height difference between Kendrick Lamar and Usain Bolt on one of the rapper’s Instagram photos.

And according to Sports Illustrated track reporter Chris Chavez, Bolt is a “big guy” at six-foot-five.

According to Chaves, his own height is somewhere between five-foot-10 and five-foot-11 and his height difference next to Bolt is not “as bad as” Kendrick Lamar’s. So the best guess is that either Kendrick Lamar is around five-foot-six or, as the magazine joked, “Usain Bolt is his dad.”
