Pregnant Woman In The UK Viciously Stabbed, Baby Delivered Safely [Videos]

A heavily pregnant woman was stabbed in the back in the U.K. on Friday, leaving her in a critical condition. Her baby, meanwhile, was reportedly delivered safely.

Five passersby were hailed as heroes on Friday for intervening in an attack that left a 40-year-old heavily pregnant woman in a critical condition. A 41-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

As reported by the Birmingham Mail, the pregnant woman was stabbed repeatedly in the street in Trinity Hill, Sutton Coldfield, at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, suffering multiple stab wounds. She was taken by an Air Ambulance helicopter to a nearby hospital, where police have confirmed her baby was born alive and well.

Reportedly, the woman’s attacker was known to the stabbing victim and was captured by men who went to the pregnant woman’s assistance. Two of her rescuers reportedly suffered hand injuries while aiding the pregnant woman.

According to Chief Inspector Julian Harper, the pregnant woman and her unborn child were “critical but stable” when taken to the hospital. Harper lauded the actions of the men who rushed to help the woman.

“I would certainly like to give thanks to individuals who got involved and members of the public who dived into a volatile situation with a complete disregard for their own safety.”

According to Harper, he knows it was initially one man who went to her aid, but four younger men were alerted to what was happening and also intervened on her behalf, preventing any further assault on the women and holding the knifing suspect until the police arrived. Harper was unsure if the men had disarmed the suspect in the process, but this is part of their inquiry.

Later in the day, West Midlands Police Chief Constable Dave Thompson headed to Twitter, praising the actions of the members of the public who helped the pregnant woman.

Harper said a 41-year-old man has been taken into custody for the stabbing on suspicion of attempted murder. He added that police believe the suspect and the pregnant woman are known to each other, so they are taking this as a domestic related situation. Harper added that the public should not be alarmed, as they have the only person believed to be involved in the situation under guard.

He said that while the incident happened in a busy area of the city, they have their suspect in custody and are “working hard to understand the circumstances that led up to the assault.”

“Obviously if the lady or the baby should die then it does have the potential to be a murder inquiry.”

Harper added that their wishes are with the woman, and they hope that she does recover from her serious injuries.

Later in the day, the West Midlands Police announced that the baby had been born in the hospital and is well, while the mother remains in a critical condition.

Since the incident, the West Midlands Police have taken to Twitter again to promote a campaign to “end the knife cycle.”

According to the Mirror, one local who was in the area at the time of the stabbing incident heard “a lot of arguing and shouting,” and the next thing they knew, there were police everywhere.

“I heard male voices shouting ‘drop it, drop it’ and a woman screaming something about ‘not the baby’ or ‘not our baby’. It was terrifying.”

The witness said the pregnant woman must have made a run for it up a side road, but that this was a dead end.

“He must have cornered her and that was it.”
