John Goodman: The Secret To His Stunning Weight-Loss And ’10 Cloverfield Lane’

John Goodman has had a long and successful acting career, both on the big screen and in television. Despite his professional success, the former Roseanne actor has spent much of his life struggling with his weight. At one point, Goodman weighed in at nearly 400 pounds, and his weight has fluctuated wildly for years. However, by 2010, John Goodman, 63, had lost nearly 100 pounds. And he’s managed to keep it off.

So, how did he do it?

Back in 2010, Mother Nature Network reports that John Goodman credited his weight loss to making some serious lifestyle changes. Of course, lifestyle changes alone can’t facilitate weight loss, not without a change of attitude and perspective. Fortunately for John, by that point in his life, he had plenty of mental change to spare, too.

“I know it sounds sappy, but it was a waste. It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next… I wanted to live life better.”

The lifestyle changes that John Goodman incorporated into his life were pretty much the same ones that any nutritionist, trainer, or physician will suggest to someone struggling with their weight. He cut sugar, quit drinking alcohol, and started going to the gym six days every week. While it didn’t happen overnight, the weight loss did happen, and overall it amounted to Goodman dropping almost 100 pounds.

According to Mackie Shilstone, John Goodman’s physical transformation has been an “ongoing physical process.” During his six-times-per-week gym visits, Goodman spent (and spends) plenty of time on both the elliptical machine and treadmill. In addition, the star committed to accumulating an additional 10,000-12,000 steps per day.

That’s not all.

While exercise (especially cardio) are great for facilitating weight loss, you can’t exercise your way fit. John Goodman had to make some serious dietary changes to get the maximum results from his efforts. According to Shilstone, Goodman opted for a Mediterranean diet to help him reach his fitness goals.

The Mediterranean diet has been widely touted in recent years for being highly conducive to achieving/maintaining a healthy body weight. The diet John Goodman utilized to achieve his recent weight loss incorporates foods and beverages native to the Mediterranean region, the Mediterranean diet does more than just promote a healthy BMI.

“Rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, beans, legumes, a variety of herbs and spices, wine, fish, seafood and olive oil, this meal plan may reduce the risk of heart disease and other inflammatory conditions like arthritis.”

It’s also been widely reported that research has indicated that the Mediterranean diet chosen by John Goodman goes well beyond its immediate health benefits. In addition, the diet has been shown to have a positive impact on our genes. Potentially, the Mediterranean diet can add years to a person’s life.

So why was John Goodman’s recent weight loss effort so successful, especially after years of setbacks? According to Mackie Shilstone, his commitment, planning, and attitude made all the difference. After years of trying, this time John adhered “religiously” to his total wellness plan, according to his personal trainer.

“This time, he really wanted to do it.”

All of John Goodman’s hard work and commitment seem to be paying off professionally as well as personally. Goodman is starring in the much-anticipated 10 Cloverfield Lane, which hits theaters on March 11.

The film, 10 Cloverfield Lane, stars John Goodman, John Gallagher, Jr., and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and is produced by J.J. Abrams. It has been shrouded in about as much secrecy as a movie can be, reports Cinema Blend. In the upcoming flick, the newly svelte John Goodman can be found hiding out in some kind of doomsday bunker (which could also be his house), rescuing/imprisoning a car crash victim from some as-yet unidentified monster or force. According to the report, 10 Cloverfield Lane is somehow related to 2008’s Cloverfield, but as yet, the connection hasn’t yet been disclosed.

“While the Cloverfield monster isn’t in this movie, there’s a new monster and there’s something else that happens… but I don’t want to ruin the ending.”

It’s also worth reporting that John Goodman’s new film doesn’t include the cliche “found footage” camera trickery, a filming style that can make movie-goers a bit green around the gills.
