Watch the unboxing and review made by Asher Schwartz for the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5:

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was announced by Samsung in August 2015. It is the first Galaxy device from Verizon to get the Marshmallow OS update, which includes firmware improvements, new features and a brand new look for the mobile phone. For those excited with the firmware’s new aesthetics, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update brings in new folder designs as well as fresh app icons. The search bar has been redesigned as well, letting the users quickly look for mobile apps.

When it comes to features, one of the biggest additions to expect upon installing the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is a faster and much smarter virtual assistant service called Now on Tap. The feature’s description on the Verizon Wireless support page read:

“Now on Tap anticipates what you need in the moment. With a simple tap, you can get cards with useful information and apps that feed your need to know.”

Another highlight of the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS update is the Doze feature, a battery-saving feature that automatically puts the mobile device into a sleep mode when it is not being used.

The software update released for Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 5 also brings in the Wi-Fi Calling feature for HD Voice users. Before turning on Wi-Fi Calling, users need to activate HD Voice first. To do so, Note 5 owners can simply go to Settings, select Advanced Calling and then tap Activate Advanced Calling. Once the activation is successful, users can navigate to the same setting menu for Advanced Calling to finally enable the Wi-Fi Calling feature.

The firmware update did not only add new features and enhancements as app removal was also done. According to the change log, Amazon Appstore has been deleted.

As for other Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update news, Mobipicker reported that a timetable document was leaked allegedly showing the firmware’s release schedule for other devices. Currently, the South Korean tech giant is rolling out the Android update for the latest flagship devices, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
