Watch Pakistan Vs. Sri Lanka Cricket Live Stream: Asia Cup Concludes For Both Teams With Pride At Stake

The Asia Cup T20 cricket championship is coming to an end, and fans of Pakistan and Sri Lanka can watch a live stream as the two subcontinental powers go at each other in the 10th and last group stage match of the tournament — with both teams hoping to regain a little pride after disappointing performances in the 2016 Asia Cup, and attempting to get their houses in order before the T20 World Cup which opens later this month in India.

Sri Lanka are the Asia Cup defending champions — or, at least, they were before being effectively eliminated from qualification for the final match when they lost to Bangladesh last Sunday. The islanders have captured five of the 12 Asia Cup titles so far.

Friday’s match will be a rematch of the 2014 Asia Cup final — but this time the game will determine only third place on the five-team tournament, as both Pakistan and Sri Lanka come in with just one win apiece in the tournament.

Both teams defeated the lone qualifier in the competition, United Arab Emirates — and both lost to India ad Bangladesh.

Pakistan won the Asia Cup four years ago, the second overall trophy for the team. But they, too, fell to suddenly streaking Bangladesh on Wednesday. At that time, Pakistan was eliminated from a shot at a third title.

Instead, Bangladesh, the host nation, will meet heavily favored India on Sunday in only the second Final appearance for the Tigers. India, on the other hand, will be going for a record sixth Asia Cup championship after cruising through the four-match group stage undefeated.

For fans in the United States, that start time will be 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, 5:30 a.m. Pacific.

Pakistan veteran Shoaib Malik called his team’s showing in the Asia Cup “very disappointing, with the T20 World Cup right around the corner.

“I was hoping for an India vs. Pakistan final on Sunday, but we’ll be home then,” Shoaib told The India Telegraph newspaper on Thursday. “One would have liked a strong performance ahead of the World T20, but that hasn’t happened.”

Whether Pakistan will get another shot at defeating arch-rival India in the World T20 remains up in the air. On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board said it is now considering pulling the country’s team out of the World T20 in India, because they are not satisfied that India will provide adequate security measures for the players.

Assuming that the concerns are addressed and Pakistan shows up, they will make their debut in the T20 World Cup on March 16, when they take on one of the two qualifying teams — likely to be Bangladesh once again.

The Pakistan vs. India match in the tournament’s group stage is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, in Dharmasala.
