‘Ghostbusters’ Remake Trailer: Easter Eggs Include Hidden Website And A Big Twinkie

People have been waiting and waiting for the trailer for the Ghostbusters remake, with an all-female cast, to drop, and it finally has. There is a bit of controversy going on with it, but it still is a lot better than many were going to give it credit for. With that though, it’s clear that respect will be paid to the original team and films as numerous Easter Eggs and even a secret website are hidden in the trailer.

The Verge was one of the first to reveal the trailer to the world, and there are a lot of obvious tributes and direct homages to the original Ghostbusters. Looking at it, fans can easily spot Ecto-1, the proton packs, slime, and even the old firehouse.

Did you happen to notice a number of other things in the trailer? Keen eyes and hardcore fans of the Ghostbusters may have noticed these Easter Eggs.

The Big Twinkie

At one point around the 1:36 mark, the fearsome foursome are walking into New York’s Times Square as the apparitions and ghosts are taking over. There are billboards and neon signs all over the place, and one is pretty awesome.

See, over on the left-hand side where it says “That’s A Big Twinkie?” That is a tribute to the original 1984 film in which Winston (Ernie Hudson) is talking with Ray (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon (Harold Ramis) about the containment unit and the amount of ghosts it has in it. Winston simply states, “That’s a big Twinkie.”

The Hidden Website

At the 1:04 mark of the new Ghostbusters trailer, there is a whiteboard shown with a lot of formulas on it. Across the top of the board, there is this formula: “[Pa/RA(NO x RM)alS + UD1es/Lab]COM.” Don’t disregard all of that as gibberish and something you don’t understand.

That is actually a URL for a secret website that is www.paranormalstudieslab.com and it is pretty awesome at describing busting ghosts with science. Do yourself a favor and look at how a proton pack could legitimately be created and work.

Oh, by the way, the Paranormal Studies Laboratory is where Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) worked in the beginning of Ghostbusters.

SLIMER!

Yes, the spud is back and in the film at the 1:35 mark of the trailer. It was proven and confirmed that he would be in the remake, and now here is the first true look at him.

It honestly looks as if they made him identical to the one from the original film.

Please know that there is a possible SPOILER alert coming up in the following Easter Egg from the Ghostbusters remake trailer. Even though it’s out there for all to see, many may not have noticed them at all.

You’ve been warned.

…back to the future or back to the past?

Going back to the scene in New York’s Times Square, right at the end of the shot before the ghost flies into the screen, everything changes. All of the images and posters and signs change to things from the ’70s including Isle of the Snake People (1971) and Taxi Driver (1976).

Buzzfeed points out that this could mean a time travel deal happens at some point and brings the four ladies into the past. If this does happen, is this when the original team of Ghostbusters show up? It’s possible, but there are a few problems with that.

  1. Egon (Ramis) won’t be there due to the actor passing away.
  2. In the ’70s, the Ghostbusters weren’t the Ghostbusters yet.
  3. It’s known that just about all the original main cast members will make cameos, but as different characters.

Still, that’s not to say that the new team doesn’t run into younger versions of the original team of Ghostbusters.

While there may be some nit-picky issues with the the first trailer for the Ghostbusters remake, it’s hard to deny that it is better than many thought it would be. Now, these Easter Eggs (especially the hidden website) make things even more interesting for what could be to come when the film is released this summer.
