Construction For ‘Star Wars’ Land Will Begin Next Month

Star Wars fans can officially start planning their vacations to Disneyland. According to the Los Angeles Times, Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Robert Iger announced at the company annual’s shareholder’s meeting today that construction on Star Wars land will begin next month.

Fans got their first look at the Star Wars attraction last month during a tribute to the world of Disney theme parks on ABC. Harrison Ford, Han Solo himself, presented the plans and showed the first images of what the Star Wars park would look like, getting fans excited for the new additions.

Today, Iger stated the Star Wars park would take up 14-acres, and they plan to break ground in April. The park will consist of many feature attractions, including a Millennium Falcon ride that will allow people to be pilots of the ship, just like Han Solo and Rey, and fire laser cannons.

Comicbook.com reports Stars Wars land will allow fans to fully engage with the world in many different ways. For example, they’ll be cast members walking around the area dressed as aliens, droids, and other famous Star Wars characters, which are sure to make fans feel like they’re starring in one of the films.

Back in early January, Disneyland closed multiple attractions in Frontierland to make room for the new Star Wars park. When asked about the original plans for the new attraction that Ford unveiled previously, Iger stated some of the plans have been “tweaked” but argued fans shouldn’t worry, because Star Wars land “will be great.”

For fans who can’t make it to California, Iger also announced there will be another Star Wars land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios park in Orlando, Florida, which will also be breaking ground in April. However, there is still no completion date for either expansion.

In the meantime, Star Wars fans can start having marathons of all seven films at home very soon. According to StarWars.com, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released on Digital HD and Disney Movies on April 1. Fans can take home the film on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on April 5. Additionally, beginning on April 4 Disney Hollywood Studios will debut a new Star Wars show, “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away,” which was also announced last month. The show will include appearances from popular Star Wars characters, such as Kylo Ren and Darth Vader.

However, some Star Wars fans are not so impressed with the new prices for passes into Disney parks. The company’s new pricing policy raises daily ticket prices at its theme parks on busier days and lowers the prices for slower business days. According to the Los Angeles Times, Iger stated the change is to “spread out visitation” and reduce crowds during the holidays. The price changes took place on Sunday. Iger said, “We may end up providing a better guest experience.”

Despite Iger’s claim, some still see the price surging as just another way for the company to make more money and finance their new projects.

Still, fans are freaking out about the new Star Wars attraction and can’t wait to visit.
