Ruby Rose Helps Urban Decay Promote ‘Personal Self-Expression’ With New Modeling Campaign

Orange is the New Black actress Ruby Rose just signed a deal with cosmetics company Urban Decay. The deal will certainly cast a positive light on both Ruby and Urban Decay, allowing for Rose to bring attention to the beauty of gender fluidity and helping Urban Decay get the word out that they’re open to the many orientations and genders emerging in an increasingly self-aware society.

Orange Is The New Black star Ruby Rose is happy to align herself with Urban Decay

Ruby Rose is the very definition of self-expression. Professionally, Ms. Rose has been a disc jockey and actress, as well as a model. Personally, the Orange is the New Black actress has been very outspoken about her own gender fluidity, encouraging others to accept themselves for who they are, no matter where they identify along the vast spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation.

“I’m not a guy; I don’t really feel like a woman, but obviously I was born one. So, I’m somewhere in the middle, which – in my perfect imagination – is like having the best of both sexes,” Ruby Rose said in describing what being gender fluid means to her.

She adds that she’s identified many male characteristics in herself and that some days she completely identifies as male. Other days, Rose says she just wants to wear a pretty skirt.

What does Urban Decay see in Ruby Rose?

Certainly, the cosmetics company sees the beauty in Ruby, both inside and out, but it also seems there’s more to their decision to sign her than that. Ruby has a reputation for speaking her mind and being open about her gender identity, which seems to be something that interests Urban Decay, according to a statement posted by Ms. Rose on the cosmetic company’s Instagram account.

“Urban Decay believes in supporting individuality and personal self-expression.”

Ms. Rose continues, explaining just how important personal freedom is and implying that no one should be permitted to deny another that basic freedom.

“[Those are] two values I hold very dear— because everyone deserves the freedom to explore their personality and discover their true selves.”

There’s no word yet on just what this campaign will entail, but we can certainly expect to see more of Ruby Rose dressed in Urban Decay’s cosmetics and that certainly isn’t a bad thing. Ms. Rose is already vibrant with her colorful tattoos and, judging by what can be seen so far, Urban Decay’s make-up accentuates Ruby’s beauty in just the right ways.

Ms. Rose may find that working with Urban Decay in this campaign will bring her a new voice, enabling her to reach more people in need of guidance. There is still a great deal of intolerance and bullying, as well as ignorance of gender fluidity, so both teens and adults experiencing these issues need as much guidance and support as they can get. Ruby Rose may be able to offer that.

Urban Decay isn’t the only brand to offer Ruby a modeling campaign either. Ms. Rose will also model for Denim & Supply by Ralph Lauren. This is another company highly interested in promoting the individuality and self-expression that Rose finds so vital to a happy life.

“I’m androgynous and I’m a tomboy, but I also like to experiment with all different kinds of clothing. Stay true to your feelings and the rest will follow,” Ruby said in a Q&A with Denim & Supply.

Ms. Rose certainly has a unique outlook on fashion and how it affects her life. It will be interesting to see how Ruby Rose works her own sense of individuality into these fashion and beauty campaigns.
