‘Married At First Sight’ Season 3: Sam Felt ‘Betrayed’ After Neil Asked For Divorce

When Married At First Sight Season 3 couple Neil Bowlus and Sam Role revealed their final decision in the last episode of the FYI series, several MAFS fans were not surprised with the outcome of the six-week social experiment. Six months after the finale aired, Neil and Sam opened up what caused the marriage to fail in the first place.

In the last episode of Married At First Sight Season 3, the couple revealed that they wanted different things, while Sam wanted to give their marriage another chance, Neil was very vocal in saying that he wanted a divorce. Speaking to the New York Post, Neil admitted that his attraction towards Sam waned over time. While he felt something for her in the beginning, Sam’s behavior during the earlier weeks left much to be desired.

Neil said that while Sam started to be affectionate towards the end, it was just not enough to make him want to stay together after Married At First Sight Season 3 is over. He pointed out that the first four weeks in their relationship really created an impression on him.

I did not have any resentment toward Sam, and I wanted to continue to be friends, [but] that’s all I could give.”

Until the very last moment of the Married At First Sight Season 3 finale, Neil admitted that he was still debating whether to stay with Sam or file for a divorce. He explained that he put everything into consideration from their honeymoon to their last-minute trip to Savannah.

When Sam found out that Neil asked for a divorce, she admitted that she felt “betrayed.” Although she felt in her gut that Neil would be wary of giving their relationship another chance, she could not help but feel hopeful at the very least that he would reconsider. The Married At First Sight Season 3 star, however, was the first to admit that she deserved to get her heart broken.

“I think I deserved to feel that way since I was so mean to him the first couple weeks. I just felt betrayed and completely broken.”

The morning of the “Decision Day” episode of Married At First Sight Season 3, Sam shared that her father spoke to Neil to talk about his decision. She shared that her father believed that it was worth giving their relationship another try under normal circumstances.

Unfortunately, his pep talk did not seem to work on Neil, neither does seeing Sam in tears. The Married At First Sight Season 3 star explained that he just did what he had to do. Although he felt terrible seeing his former wife in pain, Neil shared that his heart was set on ending the marriage.

Overall, I still felt like crap. My confidence in the decision did not waver in that moment; I still felt it was the right thing to do for my happiness.”

While clearly hurt with Neil’s decision, Sam understood and even praised him for standing up for himself. She pointed out that although it broke her heart to sit with Neil after he told her that he no longer want to spend the rest of his life with her, Sam believed that she owed him one.

“He had been so stoic and patient with me when I was hurting him that I felt that he deserved the same respect and understanding,” Sam said.

In spite of their failed marriage, Sam said that she does not regret agreeing to be part of Marriage At First Sight Season 3. She shared that she learned a lot about herself, including never to take things for granted.

“I have already changed and evolved so much and have promised Neil, the experts and myself never to fall back into being the rude and crude person I was at the beginning of this experiment.”
