Gay Nebraska Woman Mutilated In Anti-Gay Hate Crime

Lincoln, Nebraska – A gay woman in Lincoln, Nebraska became the victim of anti-gay hate crime that left her tied up, mutilated, and home set on fire.

The New York Daily News reports a gay 33-year-old Nebraska woman became the victim of an anti-gay hate crime early Sunday morning when three masked men allegedly broke into her home. The intruders bound the woman with zip-ties, stripped her naked, and mutilated her body with cuts. Anti-gay slurs were carved into the woman’s abdomen and across her arms.

The masked intruders spray painted her wall with a derogatory slur used against lesbians, doused the floor with gasoline, and lit it on fire before leaving the scene, according to CBS News.

The victim crawled with her hands and feet still zip-tied, naked, bleeding, and screaming for help to her neighbor Linda Rappl’s house after the attack:

“I was in shock. She was naked, her hands were tied with zip ties. All I could see was a cut across her forehead and blood running down.”

They called the police around 4 a.m. Officials have begun an investigation but as of yet have no suspects.

A neighbor of the woman told ABC :

“When someone takes the time to handcuff someone with a zip tie and carve derogatory comments or words into somebody else’s body, that’s sheer hate and at this point, this is a hate crime.”

Erin Thomspon, a friend of the victim, says the woman is openly homosexual and tells the Omaha World-Herald that the attackers carved the word “dyke” along with two other derogatory slurs into her stomach and arm, though officials are not releasing what these words were.

According to the Journal Star, hundreds of Lincoln residents held a vigil in front of the State Capitol Sunday evening in order to show support for the victim after one woman’s account of the hate crime spread like wildfire over the internet.
