A very strange sighting in the mountains of Utah just got slightly less strange. It turns out that “goat man” is really just a “goat hunter.”
According to MSNBC, the mysterious “goat man” who was spotted among a herd of wild goats in Utah is just regular man with an extreme passion for bow hunting.
The man’s name was not revealed but Phil Douglass of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources did talk to the mysterious hunter. Here are a few things we now know about goat man.
- He’s 57 years old.
- He’s from Southern California.
- He owns a goat suit.
- He’s a bow hunter.
- He’s training for a mountain goat hunt next year in Canada.
Douglas didn’t get a name but was confident that he was speaking to the real “goat man.” Douglas said:
“He gave me enough details about the area and the situation that it made me feel confident this was him… In talking to him, I felt he was very knowledgeable, a very experienced hunter. He’s hunted internationally…”
Douglas said that his main concern was that he didn’t want the 57-year-old man to get shot accidentally during hunting season.
“My concern all along was that this person needed to understand the risks, and certainly after talking to him, I felt he was doing the best he could to understand and mitigate those risks … He was simply preparing for a hunt.”
Douglas said that rifle hunters are required to wear bright orange during hunts but that archery hunters were allowed to wear camouflage. Archery hunters are also encouraged to go on practice hunts before the season to make sure that they are able to use clean and humane shots.
