Rory Feek Recounts Joey’s Tear-Jerking Final Goodbyes To Daughter Indy, Is ‘Thankful’ Joey’s Story Might Inspire [Video]

Rory Feek has revealed the heartbreaking news that now that “Joey has done all she set out to do,” the singer has just a few days left to live. In a tear-jerking message over his personal blog, Rory detailed both the happy and heartbreaking moments up to Joey’s death, including saying goodbye to her tiny 2-year-old daughter, Indiana.

In the open message to fans, Rory Feek, who has shared every step of his wife’s battle with cancer, writes that he’s “thankful” that he’s been able to share the journey with fans. Feek also writes that he hopes that Joey’s life “might possibly help or encourage someone else somewhere. That this life she’s living might impact the life of someone that she and I will never meet, and never see, at least this side of heaven.”

Joey Feek entered hospice last November to continue her struggle with cancer, but now, according to Rory, the brave mother has decided “enough is enough” now that she’s accomplished everything she wanted. On his blog, Feek revealed his wife is “ready to stop fighting and she told me so.”

Rory and Joey recently celebrated Indiana’s second birthday, and it was one of Joey’s dear wishes to survive her terrible cancer long enough to see her daughter turn 2. Despite the cancer that was drawing her life to a close, Feek was able to be with her daughter on that special day “by sheer will-power (and God’s grace).” On the blog, Rory Feek shared intimate photos of Joey with her daughter, saying a tearful last goodbye to the little girl.

In an emotional passage, Rory writes that he “set our little Indy on Joey’s lap and we all cried with my wife as she told her how much her mama loved her.” Joey then told her daughter to “be a big girl” for Rory, letting her know that no matter what, “mama will be watching over you.”

Feek then held her daughter as she “pulled Indiana up and she kissed her. One last kiss.” Rory also describes how Feek also said goodbye to her family and friends now that the end is near and “her health had continued to decline rapidly.” Rory writes that his wife told each person how much they meant to her and that she will see them in heaven.

Since saying her final goodbyes, the country singer has been “asleep for days now and her body is shutting down quickly.” Rory Feek let fans know that the hospice nurse “came again this morning and said Joey will most-likely only be with us for a few more days…at the most.” Rory also shared he is grateful her story is “being picked up and shared by dozens of news organizations and hundreds of thousands of individuals on Facebook and elsewhere.”

The couple was nominated for their first Grammy award this year in the Best Duo/Group Country Vocal Performance category. One of Joey’s goals was to live to watch the Grammy Awards, which she was able to do. At the time of the nomination, Rory told Entertainment Tonight that “[w]hen you love country music as much as we do, to even be nominated for a Grammy for Best Duo/Group Country Vocal Performance is like winning the lottery.”

Although his wife is dying young at the age of 40, Rory believes Joey “has accomplished many great things… she’s lived a very full life.” Rory also wrote that although her life is being cut short, Feek has “loved those around her greatly and been loved greatly in return.” Rory added that his wife had a life that is not just “well-lived,” but “well-loved.”

Rory summed up his letter to fans by writing that even though “our hearts are heavy,” this is “only the beginning.”
