Disney Theme Park Ticket Prices On The Rise: Other Ways To Save On Your Magical Vacation

Yes, Disney theme park tickets are on the rise. The price typically increases once a year. But, don’t panic! There are plenty of other ways to save on your magical vacation and still have TONS of fun.

As of today, according to The New York Times, seasonal ticket prices go into effect at two parks. Even though it costs more to walk through the gates of Disneyland and Walt Disney World, don’t let that stop you from hanging out with Mickey, Pluto, and the whole gang. There’s no need to worry about the possibility of unused tickets either. Here’s why, via The Disney Blog.

“Unused tickets expire on December 31, 2017. If you buy a ticket for one water park and find it’s too crowded or want to hop to the other park for whatever reason you can now do that.”

Due to the substantial drop in oil prices, it’s much cheaper to drive to one of the parks now, as opposed to even a few months ago. The Motley Fool reminds its readers that gas price have dropped approximately 25 percent, in the past year alone. Airfare is also more affordable. So, whether you’re driving or flying, the money you save will more than likely offset higher theme park ticket prices.

U.S. News offers several great Disney-related saving tips, for families and individuals alike. One of the best times to visit any Disney theme park coincides with the beginning of the new school year, the end of August through much of September. This is also one of the times when the new ticket pricing structure will be at its lowest.

Currently, on-demand pricing doesn’t affect multi-day passes. Disney’s real goal is to get you to stay (and spend money) as long as you can. This means the longer you plan to stay, the less your average daily ticket price.

If you’re planning on staying at a non-Disney hotel, choose from a list of accommodation choices that allow you to make reservation changes without a fee. This way, if you find a better deal (closer to travel time) you’ll save money without penalty.

Websites like Mouse Savers and AllEars.net are packed with Disney theme park ticket discount ideas and a whole lot more. For example, there was a time when guests were prohibited from bringing food or beverages into the park, which made mealtime quite expensive.

Good news! Today, you don’t have to sneak in snacks in effort to save money. Any food, which doesn’t require re-heating, is fair game. Soft drinks and bottles water are ok, too. Things you still can’t bring in are glass containers, alcohol of any kind, and hard-sided or large coolers. No straws allowed, whatsoever, when visiting the Animal Kingdom.

During an Orlando Sentinel interview, Martin Lewison, assistant professor at New York’s Farmingdale State College, had this to say about the price increase.

“‘Dynamic pricing,’ as it’s known, is common for hotels and airlines. Theme parks have started using it in little dribs and drabs. I know some people get priced out, but we’re not all born with the right to go to Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom.”

Many people disagree with the last part of that statement. With advance planning, it’s entirely possible to enjoy a Disney vacation. Remember, you’re never too old to meet Mickey and watch night-time fireworks silhouetting Cinderella’s Castle.

Instead of allowing the Disney theme park ticket price increase to get you down, start thinking of creative ways to save on your trip, today!
