Powerball is the nation’s most popular game. However, it isn’t played in every state. Powerball is governed by the Multi State Lottery Association (MUSL) and is played in 44 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. As the jackpots are promised to continue to reach large amounts, more people who live in states without the lottery game are hoping Powerball will come to their area.

More Billion Dollar Jackpots Coming to Powerball’s Future

The Jan. 13, 2016 Powerball drawing for $1.58 billion really made an impact on the game. State lotteries broke sales records during the month of January, more people played Powerball than ever before, and many people played the jackpot lottery game for the first time. Powerball fever swept across the nation for several weeks as people waited to see how high the jackpot would climb before someone matched all winning numbers. There were three winning tickets sold in the $1.58 billion drawing. One was sold in Tennessee to Lisa and John Robinson, one in Florida to Maureen Smith and David Kaltschmidt, and one in California. The California Powerball winner has yet to come foward and publicly claim their winnings. Some Powerball jackpot winners live in states where they may remain anonymous. Florida, Tennessee, and California do not have laws that protect the anonymity of Powerball lottery winners. The California winner will need to come forward within one year from the drawing date in order to claim his or her share of the jackpot prize.

The Tennessee Powerball winners appeared on the Today Show, followed by an appearance on Ellen. They discussed their incredible luck at winning, stated they bought four-quick pick tickets and one of them matched all six winning numbers! You can see the video of the Tennessee Powerball winners Lisa and John Robinson on the Today Show below.

The Florida Powerball winners kept a low profile, and chose not to go public with their win right away. Instead, they held a press conference in mid-February, declaring they were also lucky winners sharing the jackpot prize.

Florida Powerball Winners Come Forward

The California Powerball winner has not come forward, prompting some to think that he or she has met their demise.
