The “fat American” stereotype is one that dogs people from the US when we venture outside our 50 states, but among countries that really should not be throwing stones at us is the chips-and-lager consuming England — the country also hosting the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

Yet, it seems despite being like the chubby chick that only looks thin by merit of having a 15 pounds thinner friend, England always tries to look skinny by standing next to us. It won’t work, England! A new “fat American” insult has been slung by the boutique Maiden, which is selling commemorative tote bags emblazoned with a phrase meant to insult the many American families pouring in to spend money on food, lodging, souvenirs and entertainment in London.

HuffPo initially called out the “fat American” tote bag on sale at Maiden, reporting on one of their channels:

“Maiden, a U.K. retailer of stationery, tote bags and other cute knick-knacks, has gotten into the Olympics spirit with a series of humorous Olympic-themed products. The highlight of the collection? A cheeky canvas bag that reads, ‘I’m Renting My Flat To A Fat American Family.’”

The bag is one of a few “funny” slogans printed by Maiden ahead of the Olympics to cash in on the event, but none of the others are as mean spirited — or, may we note, aimed at any other cultures.

Which is not to say other cultures don’t get ribbed, but could you see Americans making a tote bag emblazoned “I’m renting my house to a toothless English family?” Probably not.
