James Holmes ‘Joker’ Mugshot Released
James Holmes’ mugshot was released today by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado. Holmes was arrested on Friday night outside of a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, after he allegedly murdered 12 people at the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises.
Holmes’ mugshot was released just a few hours after he made first court appearance. CBS reports that Holmes, who allegedly told police that he “was the joker” after his arrest, entered court with orange-red hair and a maroon jailhouse jumpsuit.
After the shooting, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that Holmes had dyed his hair red and told police that he was the Joker, Batman’s enemy in The Dark Knight.
Kelly said:
“We have some information, most of it is public. It clearly looks like a deranged individual. He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’ obviously the ‘enemy’ of Batman.”
Holmes appearance in court today, and the mugshot that was just released, confirm at least part of Kelly’s account. Police have not elaborated on Holmes’ joker comment and at the moment the suspect is not cooperating.

Authorities do not know what motivated Holmes to open fire during the Dark Knight Rises premiere in Aurora, Colorado. According to ABC, Homes is not currently cooperating and it could take months before they uncover a motive.

I think the writer just meant that the commissioner was talked to AFTER the shooting and that he stated James Holmes had dyed his hair and called himself the joker. Could be wrong but it just sounds like bad journalism to me.

Check out stories about criminals of every race, and you'll find the same thing. All they can do is speculate on the shooter, since they have found no history of crime or violence. The only thing they know about him is that he was intelligent and a good student. For once the news is reporting a fact instead of sensationalizing and guessing, and someone just has to go and complain about it!

I think we should stop giving him so much publicity. Obviously were all a little curious as to what kind of person could do this. Obviously it wasn't a snap. People snap and may cuss, say things they don't mean or slap a person. But they don't snap and buy guns and ammo over a couple of months, to pull off such a cold blooded atrocity. I know people who are mentally ill and almost all of them are loving and just trying to cope with their disability. I know people who are introverted and they act fine. I know people who have had some of the worst breaks and they continue on strong. This atrocity wan't caused by a lack of gun laws, shyness, bad breaks or a snap. It was pulled off by a very calculated cold blooded person who WANTED the WHOLE world to dismantle his psyche, analyze his entire life, and be engrained as a legend, even if evil. I believe if we don't analyze the person and just respond with swift justice to the facts of the crime, we will be sending a more positive message to the victims, who need every bit of our support.

It's not like we'd catch him by complete surprise; he'd know what is coming and why unlike his victims and their families!!! They are the ones who are left dazed while they drag their pain, etc. through a waste of a trial, and we waste tons of money and time to find justice for a murderer!! Well, unfortunately, beyond making assault weapons unobtainable by ANYONE but military personel, there really was no record to show this man had any mental defect so he could pretty much obtain a gun in any state. I know in mass I have to take a class and get my permit before I buy a gun. He would have to do the same, but unless theres a record of violence or anything else that might make you a danger, most people here could get a gun permit.

Hes beyond help. Anyone who commits a crime should be held accountable- mentally ill or not! That is not an EXCUSE for murdering people!!! Jeffrey Dahmer was clearly wacked in the head- should he have not been given the treatment he got? I, for one, think he got less than he deserved and applaud the guy who took him out in jail.

Im ok with that personally. Id gladly stand at the firing squad line, with the one lone gun to take him out with. I dont consider that murder- I consider that retribution. Karma is a biatch and Ill gladly be the deliverer of it with no regrets whatsoever as those innocent victims faces ran through my head as I pulled the trigger, exacting the revenge that is rightfully theirs. how was holmes a vigilante? Vigilantes usually have a direct victim in mind and act accordingly to deal with that person who has committed some wrong. Holmes is a cold blooded mass murderer who wouldve killed and injured more had his gun not jammed. People who murder others senselessly deserve to be dealt with in a similiar manner- eye for an eye. Your blood thirst and condescending know it all attitude are disturbing. Holmes is protected in prison, where he will wait for a trail, which EVERYONE in our country is supposed to get. I don't think it is fair to blame the parents. He was not living with him and did not know his state of mind. I think his parents are devasted and it is very unfair to try to blame them.

This is a naive comment. Latency is a real thing and people who are psychopaths don't necessarily have to be killing their cats or torturing younger siblings and leaving us bread crumb trails the whole time. He is, by 4 – Factor Model definition, a psychopath. We study and dissect him not so we can put him on T-shirts, but so that maybe one day we can be able to predict this kind of horrific act in troubled people and prevent it. Also, who's to say that a portion of the victims – whatever that portion may be – Don't want to know what kind of person would do this kind of thing? When someone is thrown into a traumatic experience that leaves them confused and hurt, many times they just want to understand why and how it happened.
