New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker didn’t get a new contract with his team, but he is apparently getting a new head of hair.

Welker underwent a five-hour hair restoration procedure earlier this month at the offices of Dr. Robert Leonard, and Welker will be making commercials for Leonard Hair Transplant Associates this fall to talk about the surgery and “raise awareness” about hair loss.

According to the Boston Herald…

The five-hour procedure involved transplanting follicles to an area of Welker’s scalp where his hair had started to thin. Welker was immediately able to resume his regular activities, including training for the football season and even wearing a helmet, after which he will become a free agent.

Wes Welker is expected to see results within four months. Welker said that “When I was considering hair transplantation I knew that I wanted to work with the best in the field and that is why I chose Dr. Robert Leonard.”

Apparently the transaction with Dr. Leonard went a lot better than his contract negotiations with the Patriots. Welker was unable to reach a long-term deal with the team, so as a so-called franchise player, he will play out the upcoming season on a one year,$9.5 million guaranteed contract and then enter free agency.

Welker, 31, is a four-time All Pro and four-time Pro Bowler who has been a member of the Patriots since 2007.

Wes Welker appears to be getting more involved in endorsement deals. Earlier this year, he even appeared in a very odd TV commercial for adult diapers:
