Taylor Swift Donates $1989 To Tumblr Fan Via FaceTime

Taylor Swift is continuing on with her recent slew of good deeds and donating almost $2,000 to a charity near and dear to the heart of one of her biggest fans.

According to Daily Campus, Swift recently donated $1989 (1989, of course, being the title of her recent multi-platinum album) to a mega-fan named Igor Lekontsev who is a currently studying accounting at the University of Connecticut.

Daily Campus is reporting that Swift actually started a surprise FaceTime session with Igor on February 20, where she revealed that she would be donating the four figure sum to Lekontsev’s University’s annual HuskyTHON charity dance marathon, which aims to raise money to benefit the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

The fan revealed earlier this week that he was left shell-shocked Swift got in touch with him out of the blue for a fun chat last week.

“I literally had no idea about her contacting me until she did it,” Lekontsev told Daily Campus following his surprise conversation with Taylor over FaceTime, “I couldn’t have prepared for this two months ago.”

According to the site, Swift and Lekontsev chatted about her music during their FaceTime session and it was actually Taylor who brought up the idea of donating to the University of Connecticut’s HuskyTHON’s charity dance marathon.

But even though Swift didn’t actually attend the annual charity event, her presence was certainly felt at the University event.

“I think it’s going to be huge for HuskyTHON in the years to come – especially now that [Taylor Swift] knows about it,” fellow student Maria Blois, told the site, while the charity event’s vice president of recruitment Mackenzie Lowers revealed to Daily Campus that she “could’ve never imagined this ever happening.”

Lekontsev revealed to the site that he actually originally got Taylor’s attention through his Taylor fan page on Tumblr, which Taylor follows, that is dedicated to bringing the latest news and photos about the pop superstar to Swift’s fans.

Lekontsev recently posted a number of sweet messages about his Taylor encounter on his Tumblr page, including one where he wrote that he “love[s] Taylor so much” after their sweet exchange.

“Like just thinking about it makes me so happy!” he said of his moment with Swift on the social media site, “I love all you guys as well!”

Lekontsev also posted a screenshot of his Swift moment on the site on February 24, writing “When you wake up to the cutest cupcake in the world trying to FaceTime you. Look how adorable she is! I will love you forever and ever Taylor.”

Lekontsev then shared the love for Swift on Twitter, writing “Thank you for protecting me all these years with your words Taylor. I love you forever.”

But this is just one of many good deeds Swift has been taking up recently, which also included a $250,000 donation to fellow popstar Kesha following her recent claims that she was sexually abused by producer Dr. Luke.

According to CNN, Swift donated $250,000 to Kesha. Last week, a judge overseeing Kesha’s case denied her plea to be freed from her contract with Sony following her claims. A representative for Taylor Swift confirmed her donation in a statement issued to the site, which Swift’s team described as being a “show of support” from the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer.

“In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time,” Taylor’s representative told CNN last week.
