Ashley Olsen And Mary-Kate Get Zapped On First Episode Of ‘Fuller House’ And The Zinger That Was Cut

Fuller House has been released on Netflix, without Ashley Olsen and twin sister, Mary-Kate, and fans of Full House have been binge watching. The question many have been asking is how would they explain the absence of the youngest sister, Michelle, who was played by Ashley Olsen and twin sister Mary-Kate Olsen? It has been clear from the beginning that the Olsen sisters, who originally played Michelle on Full House, would not be appearing on the new Fuller House Netflix series, but fans have been wondering if it would be carefully side-stepped or if there would be some explanation.

The producers decided to address the issue of the absence of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in the very first episode of Fuller House by using humor.

Stephanie, the middle sister who is played by Jodie Sweetin, brings up the topic of her younger sister, Michelle, by asking where she is. Danny, the dad, who is played by Bob Saget, says, “Well, Michelle sends her love but she’s busy in New York running her fashion empire.”

To drive the point home, the cast then turned towards the audience that was watching live, with looks of disappointment on their faces.

According to MTV News, the Olsen twins zinger “elicited a staggering reaction from the show’s live studio audience.” Their laughter was so loud Mark Cendrowski, the direct of Fuller House, had to do several takes of the scene to get something that he could use.

How did the fans react? See for yourself.

People Magazine was the only press that was in attendance at the premier episode live taping and they reported that there was an additional Fuller House scene related to the absence of Ashley and Mary-Kate that did not make the cut.

After Danny explains that Michelle is running her fashion empire and is unable to be there, Uncle Jessie, played by John Stamos, complains about Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen not having even one appearance on Fuller House. The cast ad-libs about the situation and Uncle Jessie shouts, “One episode!” He gets a phone call and jokes about it by saying that it was the Olsen twins’ lawyer.

Will Ashley Olsen or her twin sister, Mary-Kate Olsen, ever make an appearance on Fuller House? According to International Business Times, “executive producer Jeff Franklin is still keeping his fingers crossed that the Olsen twins will find their way to Fuller House at some point.” A second season has not been confirmed yet but if that does happen, Franklin is hopeful that he can get one Mary-Kate or Ashley to make an appearance.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have not been acting in the past few years. Mary-Kate was last seen in a fantasy film called Beastly that came out in 2011 where she played Kendra. Ashley Olsen has not appeared on film or television since 2010 when she appeared as herself in I’m Still Here, a documentary about Joaquin Phoenix. While Mary-Kate has been a bit more active in entertainment, Ashley has opted to remove herself from the industry almost completely.

The Olsen twins main focus has been in the fashion industry where they have had a great amount of success. They began with fashion clothing for girls but have since moved on to create fashions for women. In 2012, they were awarded the Innovator of the Year award with WSJ Magazine and in the same year they also won top prize at the CFDA Fashion Awards. In 2105, Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen were nominated for the Council Of Fashion Designers.

All 13 episodes of Fuller House can now be seen on Netflix.
