Pope Francis News: Prior To ‘Dear Pope Francis’ Release Date, Religious Leader Meets With Children, Answers Questions … Except One

The latest Pope Francis news might not be what you would expect. For the past year or more, the Pontiff has traveled across the world and given statements on various subjects, as well as reactions to political topics.

One of the most recent reactions was to Donald Trump’s plans to build a wall separating the United States and Mexico. Most likely seeing it as a symbol of hate against a group of people, the Pope stated that Trump is not a Christian, despite the media and real estate mogul claiming otherwise. After hearing this about the Pontiff, Trump attempted to soften his tone and told the press that he doesn’t like fighting with him.

Other Pope Francis news has revolved around his controversial statements about gay marriage and contraceptives. He allegedly claimed that the use of contraceptives was okay to prevent the spread of Zika Virus, but not to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS.

Being one of the most dynamic religious leaders in decades, the Pope has gained a following among a very different demographic as well. Children have been writing him letters, asking him what they consider hard questions about his views, and even some personal inquiries. In response, the latest Pop Francis news states that he visited with some of these children and made the effort to answer their questions in person.

The questions are part of a new book entitled Dear Pope Francis, a children’s book which could encourage kids from a young age to follow his doctrine in a positive light. The book is expected to hit shelves on March 1.

You might think Pope Francis would have an easy time answering questions conjured by young minds, but some were surprisingly difficult, and one left him without an answer. The children present at the meeting came from all over the world, from The United States, China, Canada, Singapore, Australia, and several different cultures, according to Aleteia. Accompanying the children were Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and Friar Antonio Spadaro, SJ.

One question which might not be news, but Pope Francis answered it in a surprising way, was what he wanted to be when he was young. Reuters says he replied that he wanted to be a butcher, because he’d visited one with his mother once and was amazed at how the meat was cut.

Another question was who Pope Francis considered to be his favorite saint. “I have several saint-friends, but I do not know which I admire the most. [I] am a friend of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus; I am a friend of St. Ignatius; I am a friend of St. Francis … I would say these three, perhaps, are the ones I most keep in my heart.”

Pope Francis may have made news when he said of Jesus Christ, “I do not know if I truly love Jesus. I try to love him, but I am sure that He loves me. I’m quite certain of this.”

The question which Pope Francis said caused him the most pain was, “Why do children suffer?” He admitted he did not know the answer to the question, but cited that Jesus suffered and that was the closest he could come to an answer.
