WWE News: Finn Balor Talks Difference Between WWE, NXT And Other Promotions

Finn Balor has become a household name. Not that he wasn’t already with New Japan Pro Wrestling, but with the popularity of WWE and NXT, it only elevated his star status around the world. He’s the NXT Heavyweight champion and is close to the longest-reign in NXT history. Neville holds the record right now, which William Regal pointed out on this past episode of WWE NXT. The two will have a match. It’s already highly-anticipated by much of the fan base.

Balor is innovative and revolutionary. It’s not easy to do what he has, and to not have wanted to jump right to the main roster is a great quality he has. Zack Sabre Jr., an elite pro wreslter across the world, wasn’t at a loss for words on who he thinks is the best wrestler on the planet right now.

“I’m one-hundred percent biased, but it’s Finn Balor,” said Sabre. “I met him when I was fourteen, and he’s just been a continuous inspiration for me both in and out of the ring. He’s like a big brother to me, and such a huge influence on how to conduct yourself. If you talk about training, the guy never has a day off and puts so much effort into every small detail,” he told SI.

Balor does so much good inside and outside the ring. His videos with Bayley at NXT live events go viral after each one. The most-recent was a parody of Dirty Dancing. There’s a clear difference between WWE, NXT than other promotions. Balor has experienced it all. He talked to Progress Wrestling’s podcast about those differences and what sets WWE and NXT apart from the rest.

“I think it is different for the better and it has made me a more complete talent, it has made me a more complete performer and very much more aware of what I’m doing in the ring than I was before.”

“Before I was doing things for myself – but now I’m doing it for the audience because essentially, this is for the audience’s consumption, and if they can’t see what I’m doing, what’s the point in doing it? So I’m going to try and get the very most out of everything I do in the ring, if I’m going to do it.”

If anyone knows how it is in different promotions, it’s Finn Balor. He’s wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling, CMLL, Revolution Pro Wrestling, NWA UK Hammerlock, Insane Championship Wrestling, and the Millenium Wrestling Federation. Balor has made it all over the world doing what he loves, but some think he’s found a home in the WWE.

Not a lot of Indy talents like it in the “big time.” There are those that prefer to stay in the Indies. More creativity is allowed and they aren’t as restrictive as the WWE. That’s one reason why Daniel Bryan wanted to leave the WWE, because they wouldn’t clear him. He would’ve been allowed to wrestle in NJPW or Ring of Honor.

Lucha Underground is beginning to attach itself to that trend. They are an enigma of pro wrestling, but also tell a great story. Indy wrestlers are starting to go there. Joey Ryan and Willie Mack are two names that appeared on programming in the last few weeks. Balor won’t be doing that anytime soon. He’s in WWE NXT and doesn’t want to get called up anytime soon.

The fun he’s having with Bayley and other wrestlers in WWE NXT is quite obvious. Balor will get called up eventually, which will enhance his career. The former-IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion is a star wherever he shows up. Much like Sabre Jr. said, he’s an inspiration to many.
