‘American Idol’ Hosts Auditions For Remaining Judges Chair

The search is on. With Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler exiting American Idol, the producers at Fox are working over time to fill the empty judging slots. Mariah Carey is reportedly close to signing a deal with the hit show, but that still leaves one spot to be filled. Rumors are circulating that the new American Idol host may be a former contestant like Carrie Underwood or Clay Aiken.

According to Rumor Fix, celebrities like Fergie, Miley Cyrus, Niki Minaj, will.i.am, Charlie Sheen, have all been considered as potential candidates for the open spot. But the producers are now looking at past contestants. The gossip site reports that Carrie Underwood, Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks have all been contacted by Fox about the potential gig.

According to the Christian Post, “dozens” of potential candidates are being interviewed by Fox to become American Idol judges. Soon-to-be-former American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez said that choosing a new host is a very time-consuming process because Fox isn’t hiring an individual, they are hiring someone who has to mesh with the other judges.

Lopez said:

“They’re gonna have their work cut out for them. I think just to find that balance again and that magic that happens when the people sit there.”

Do you think a former contestant would make a good judge on American Idol?

"They are hiring someone who has to mesh with the other judge." Well, that would be Clay Aiken. Eric Trump said that Clay Aiken is the only contestant that everyone on the Celebrity Apprentice loved. That says a lot there. He said he was included in that statement and considers him a friend.

If Mariah Carey is on this show, I will BOYCOTT it. They could hire a monkey and it would be more pleasant than looking at her face and hearing that annoying voice week after week. Besides, if someone got a good comment from another judge and Mariah disdn't get her ass kissed too, she'd pitch a fit.

If Mariah Carey is a judge, I wouldn't watch the show at all. I don't think there's a more disingenuous person they could get. She's utterly ridiculous. Besides, even if a contestant was really good, she wouldn't "sing" their praises. She doesn't even sing anymore, all she does is moan and feel herself up.

  5. Clay Aiken please. His creds are the most suitable and he brings with him a ton of fans who will start watching again.

Yeah Carole!!! I so agree with ya, all the way about this news just pray, pray, pray and keep praying and hoping that he really does get this job!@<3<3<3

  7. Clay Aiken is the ideal choice. His charm, wit, intelligence, and knowledge would bring this once-great show back to LIFE! I hope AI has the good sense to return Clay to our weekly screens.

  8. Well said Claniac

American Idol mouthpiece Nigel Lythgoe already said that Adam Lambert was never a consideration. Radar Online and many others are reporting that it is Carrie Underwood and Clay Aiken that are in talks. I love Carrie's songs but that girl is as boring as watching grass grow. Bring on Clay Aiken. He proved he is funny and smart on Celebrity Apprentice and that guy has perfect pitch. Best candidate of the bunch if you ask me!

  12. Problem is, Adam hasn't been away from Idol long enough to establish the credibility for judging. I understand he was great as a mentor but a judge might be a bit much at this point.

  13. That wouldn't be a bad choice Lori. I was almost thinking of dropping this show from my favorites. :)

  14. Please…not Taylor Hicks! I would like to see Clay Aiken as a judge though!

  15. Get Jennifer Hudson if possible! An oscar, and Grammy winner? Come on folks!!!!

  16. Clay Aiken would make an excellent judge…he has been through the trials and turbulations that the contestant go through, so he can help the contestant cope.

Clay Aiken would be great, Taylor Hicks was a joke on the show and still creates a chuckle when talked about. Carrie Underwood would be good but she may just be a little too busy.

No, a former contestant would not be good for the show. The judges have to be someone who knows music and singing which none of the former contestants mentioned are not singers and do not know music. J-LOW was a terrible judge who had someone write comments for her to read then her performances and TV Ads during the show were sickening.

    Are you his mom?

  20. Clay for sure. He was very impressive om Celebrity Apprentice, I think he would be fair but honest, not a wimp like current judges.
