‘The Walking Dead’ Stars Andrew Lincoln And Norman Reedus Tease Rick And Daryl Reunion

The relationship between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) has undergone a lot of development over the first five seasons of The Walking Dead. While the two have established a great friendship during the past few seasons, they spent most of their time apart in season 6. However, that is all about to change as The Walking Dead begins to wrap up its sixth year.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lincoln discussed his character’s relationship with Daryl, and how much he has enjoyed working with Reedus on the set of The Walking Dead. Not only have their characters created a strong bond together, but Reedus and Lincoln have become close friends outside of work.

When asked about the lack of scenes with Reedus this season, Lincoln shared how he missed being on set with Reedus, who is apparently a great actor to work alongside.

“It was frustrating because I love working with Norman,” Lincoln stated in the interview. “And I love the relationship with Rick and Daryl. It’s a huge ingredient as to why these survivors are still there — that relationship. Also, it’s been on screen for a long, long time — six years now. And it is effortless working with the man. I love him. He’s one of my best friends on the planet, along with lots of other cast members that I work with in this show. Particularly with Norman, though.”

Although Rick and Daryl were split up during most of the first half of season six, fans witnessed a few intense scenes between the characters in the most recent episode of the show. According to Hollywood Life, this included Rick and Daryl going on a supply run together, which didn’t exactly go as planned.

Their supply run followed the zombie horde attack on Alexandria during the mid-season finale. The episode picked up a few weeks after the group managed to take back their town from the occupying zombies. Although the events that transpired immediately following the battle of Alexandria haven’t been revealed, a lot has changed in the intervening weeks.

For starters, Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira) are now a thing on The Walking Dead, and everything at Alexandria appears to be getting back to normal. Hence Rick and Daryl’s supply run. However, the optimistic feeling quickly turns bad after the two run into a new character, Jesus.

Jesus first comes across as a fairly harmless man before stealing Rick and Daryl’s supply truck and then leading them on a hectic chase. Although Rick and Daryl managed to take down Jesus and imprison him inside Alexandria, the verdict is still out on how much of an impact he’ll have on the community moving forward.

Meanwhile, Lincoln talked about the episode during his interview with EW and expressed his excitement with working with Reedus once more.

“And these guys are stuck together. And that was the fun of this episode — you see a completely different side of both of these guys. It was different and strange, and it will be a little bit unsettling for the audience, but it is much lighter episode — remarkably considering the episode before it is hardcore,” Lincoln explained. “But I think it was great to play.”

According to Cinema Blend, the relationship between Rick and Daryl is currently going through some changes of its own. In many ways, the two are experiencing a kind of role reversal. As was seen in the latest episode, Rick now has a strong desire to bring in new people while Daryl is hesitant. Exactly how this develops towards the end of the season is yet to be seen.

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights on AMC.
