Will Lady Gaga Publicly Support Kesha At The Oscars? Academy Award Nominee To Sing About ‘Sexual Assault’ At Ceremony

Will Lady Gaga publicly come out to support Kesha at the Oscars? The singer has already spoke up on Twitter and Instagram about standing up for Kesha after a judge ruled that she still had to work with Sony after she was allegedly sexually and emotionally abused by producer Dr. Luke, whose production company the label owns. Kesha now has to work with Sony on several albums if she wants a music career. Dr. Luke still has major stake in her sound and future success.

After Gaga shared a photo of Kesha and her holding hands in solidarity, some are wondering if she plans to include Kesha in her performance of her rape culture anthem on Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony. It’s believed that Lady Gaga was recently rehearsing for the Oscar performance, so the sharing of the photo doesn’t exactly seem like a coincidence with everything that’s going on.

Adele recently took to the Brit Awards, and used her speech to support Kesha. While winning the award for Female Solo Artist, Adele took the time out to thank her record label and management, “for embracing the fact that I’m a woman and being encouraged by it” and added, “I’d also like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.”

As for Gaga, she was one of the stars in the music business that tweeted in support of Kesha, specifically when the hashtag #FreeKesha started to trend.

Other stars that have spoken up for Kesha after the devastating verdict include Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Lorde, Lena Dunham, and so many more.

Kesha eventually spoke up about the overwhelming support in a Facebook post saying that, “Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. A million times over and forever thank you. The support I have received has left my face swollen from tears. I love you all so much. A statement too large for this format is coming.”

Gaga’s song, “Till It Happens To You,” is nominated for Best Original Song from the film The Hunting Ground. Although Gaga decided to co-write the song with famed songwriter Diane Warren, it still has a personal meaning for the singer.

Gaga opened up about her own experience of being raped when she was a teenager. During a TimesTalk panel, the “Born This Way” singer said this about the experience.

“I think it was important to everyone that the person singing this song had been abused, or experienced something like that so it was authentic. I didn’t tell anyone for I think seven years [about the rape]. I didn’t know how to think about it.

“I didn’t know how to accept it. I didn’t know how to not blame myself or think it was my fault. It’s something that really changed my life. It changed who I was, completely. It changed my body, it changed my thoughts.”

Gaga continued as follows.

“For many people, it has almost like trauma, where you re-experience it through the years after it. It can trigger patterns in your body of physical distress. So a lot of people suffer not just emotional and mental pain, but physical pain as a result of being abused, raped or traumatized in some way.”

As stated, Gaga is set to take to the stage to perform the powerful anthem. Like most of her performances, it’s under wraps, which is causing some fans to speculate that she might incorporate a message for Kesha, or Kesha herself, into the performance.
