Blake Shelton Fires Back At Westboro Baptist Church Amid Protest Threats

Blake Shelton has a few choice words for Westboro Baptist Church members — again. The feud between the country singer and the controversial church that pickets funerals of American soldiers began several years ago when the group protested him over his first divorce and marriage to Miranda Lambert.

The Westboro Baptist Church is threatening to protest Blake Shelton’s upcoming concert at the Spring Center in Missouri, MSN reports.

“Great!!!! Lots of my crew guys will be happy to see your wives.. Again.,” Blake Shelton tweeted after hearing about the plans for the concert protest.

Westboro church leaders took issue with Blake Shelton after his high-profile split with first wife, Kaynette Gern. The couple married in 2003 and their divorce was finalized in 2006 — about six months after he met Miranda Lambert. Gern had been the emerging country music star’s long time girlfriend and served as his road manager. After the divorce, she moved back home to Oklahoma, but when Blake and Miranda set up housekeeping in the next town over, Gern said that the state was not big enough for all of them and she moved to Kansas. She is now teaching elementary school and living in a modest house on about 10 acres with rodeo star Cody Joe Scheck, CBS reports.

Shelton was born in Ada, Oklahoma, on June 18, 1976, Biography notes. He moved to Nashville when he was 17 to with dreams of becoming a country music songwriter. In 2001, Shelton was on his way to achieving his dreams when his song, “Austin,” hit No. 1 on the country music charts.

The last time that the Westboro Baptist Church threatened to show up at a Blake Shelton concert, the country singer had tweeted the following.

“Y’all may want to keep an eye on ur women at my show.. I’ve got a few band and crew guys that’ll be smacking that holy a*s!:

Three years ago, Blake Shelton was leaving a birthday party for Usher in West Hollywood when TMZ asked him what he thought about the Westboro Baptist Church putting him in their line of fire one again.

“They can blow me,” Shelton said, and urged the celebrity news outlet to make sure they quoted him.

As the Blake Shelton Westboro Baptist Church feud raged on, the singer authored another tweet to share his disdain for the group and what they stood for.

“Hey @WBCSays.. This isn’t about God,. It’s about me using this opportunity to make y’all look like the absolute complete dipsh**s you are.”

Blake Shelton’s second divorce likely added fuel to the fire for the church group. The Voice star began dating Gwen Stefani late last year after his marriage to Miranda Lambert ended. The divorce of the country music power couple shocked their fans. The couple filed for divorce quietly and have appeared largely amicable sine the marriage ended.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been largely inseparable since their romance became public. Stefani also recently divorced her husband, who is the father of her sons. The couple has been widely photographed both on private outings and at celebrity events. Shelton reportedly attended the second birthday party of her son, Apollo. The party was held at Stefani’s home in Beverly Hills and boasts a cowboy theme.

Comments from other party guests claim that Blake Shelton was very “hands-on” with the children at the birthday party. He and Stefani reportedly had their arms around each other and shared kisses on the cheek during Apollo’s birthday celebration.
