Zack Snyder Posts Photo Unintentionally Revealing New Justice League Costumes

After the massive success of the Avengers movies and the influx of movies based on Marvel comics characters, DC Comics has been struggling to catch up to their rival company. Shortly after The Avengers broke box-office records, DC announced the initial few films in a tidal wave of comic book movies, including the upcoming Batman v Superman movie. This character crossover is the first step toward a Justice League movie, which aspires to dethrone The Avengers as the current king of superhero movies.

While many fans are skeptical that the DC team of heroes stands a chance against The Avengers, others are extremely excited for this merging of worlds. And director Zack Snyder gave those fans something to sink their teeth into this week after posting a Twitter photo with him and Jason Momoa (who plays Aquaman) that reveals a handful of the new Justice League hero costumes. The outfits are crammed in the background of a workshop, likely incomplete and possibly unintended for reveal. Nonetheless, you can get the first look at the costume for the Flash and Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s tweet below.

The Flash’s costume shows a further departure from the DC TV series following the same superhero. While the television show stars Grant Gustin as the impossibly fast crime-fighter, the Justice League film is set to star Ezra Miller as the Flash. And although both costumes resemble the sleek red getup from the comic books, Zack Snyder’s version of the Flash features a much more detailed set of shiny armor, while the TV show is a more minimalistic spandex suit.

Meanwhile, Zack Snyder’s version of Aquaman’s suit departs entirely from the comic book depiction of the hero. It ditches the bright orange scale top and the skin-tight green pants for a dull set of aquatic armor.

Neither the Flash nor Aquaman have yet appeared in a modern comic book film, but according to Gamespot, the Flash is reportedly slated to make a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is also directed by Zack Snyder. Aquaman may even make an appearance if the rumors are true.

Wonder Woman is certain to appear, however, as confirmed by the most recent trailer.

As the Nerdist points out, the costume sneak peek that Zack Snyder accidentally shared is in line with the recent concept art for the Justice League movie that hit the web a few weeks ago.

Many fans have noticed that the Green Lantern is absent from the Justice League lineup, which may be a conscious choice on Zack Snyder’s part after the critical failure of the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern film.

In the concept art, you can also see Cyborg, a less popular DC character who is also slated to receive a solo film in years to come.

There’s an unidentified black costume in the photo Zack Snyder shared, which could be an alternate Batman costume or even a Nightwing suit.

Zack Snyder recently admitted that he’s thrilled to be bringing all these characters together. While discussing Batman v Superman, Zack Snyder told USA Today, “I love Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman, but having Flash and Aquaman and Cyborg and to see them all standing together, it’s a pretty dorky and cool experience for me.”

Some say Zack Snyder shared these previews of the superhero costumes intentionally, expecting the keen eye of fans to find them in the background. Do you think this a calculated promotional move on Zack Snyder’s part or an accidental leak?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will hit theaters on March 25.
