Jay DeMarcus of the band Rascal Flatts, and his wife Allison have welcomed their second child, Dylan Jay DeMarcus, into the world on Friday, July 20th in Nashville, according to a confirmation by the singer’s rep.
The baby boy came into the world at 4p.m. and weighs 7lbs, 11 oz. People reports that both mom and baby are “doing well in a local hospital.”
DeMarcus, 41, was seen later on Friday at a Rascal Flatts performance in Detroit, but he was able to fly to Nashville just before his son arrived, returning to Detroit hours later to be in the show–and he didn’t even have the time to take off his hospital scrubs before taking the stage to perform.
WYCD reports that their DJ Steve Grunwald was able to speak with Jay DeMarcus’s band mates Gary LeVox and Joe Don Rooney before Friday night’s Detroit show. They talked about the birth of Jay’s second child, with Gary and Joe jokingly saying:
“Jay got pregnant. He got up this morning, jumped on our airplane, flew home, and had the baby. Now he is flying back for the show…he woke up in a panic, you know, when his water broke.”
Gary then seriously explained that he found out Jay would be going to Nashville for his second child’s arrival when he called him in a panic, saying:
“Dude, listen. I’m gonna try and make it back for the show, but we’re going in. Allison’s going to the hospital. We’re gonna have the baby.”
When Grunwald asked what the baby boy’s name would be, Gary and Joe replied, “the last thing we heard was Gary Don. Gary Don Junior.”
People notes that little Dylan joins his big sister Madeline Leigh, who is 19 months. Jay DeMarcus and his wife, who is a TV personality and the former Miss Tennessee, got married in 2004, and announced their second pregnancy in January.
