Gigi Hadid Trades Zayn Malik For Older Boy Band Models On ‘Lip Sync Battle’ [Video]
Gigi Hadid showed that her love for former boy band members doesn’t just extend to Zayn Malik while competing on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model revisited the late ’90s during one of her performances, and fangirls who remember rocking butterfly hair clips and chunky Mary Janes are going to be so jelly—Nick Carter and A.J. McLean backed Gigi up as she rocked out to the Backstreet Boys’ “Larger Than Life.”
Instead of dressing up in a heavy futuristic robot suit like Nick Carter wears in the “Larger Than Life” music video, Gigi Hadid opted to channel Britney Spears’ “Toxic” spy character by rocking a slinky black catsuit. She also didn’t get her own army of CGI robots as backup dancers, but the Lip Sync Battle crowd went pretty crazy when Nick Carter and A.J. McLean joined her onstage. Gigi’s competitor, Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey, also seemed pretty excited about the boy band stars’ surprise appearance during Gigi’s performance. It looks like Tyler and Nick are wearing the same leather jacket in the teaser clip below.
As E! News points out, the last few episodes of Lip Sync Battle have been heavy on the ’90s pop star nostalgia—The Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco performed Britney Spears’ “I’m a Slave 4 U” a few weeks ago, and Christina Aguilera joined Hayden Panettiere for a performance of “Lady Marmalade” earlier this month. The show was overdue for an appearance by a male pop star or two from the same era, and Gigi Hadid was just the woman to attract a few Backstreet Boys—the 20-year-old model has become a boy band magnet, after all.
According to E! News, Gigi and Jonas Brothers singer Joe Jonas broke up last November, and Gigi quickly moved on with former One Direction band member Zayn Malik. As a tatted-up boy band bad boy, Zayn was definitely the A.J. McLean of his group.
In addition to sharing Zayn’s admiration for body ink, 38-year-old A.J. seems to share the British singer’s taste in women. According to Unreality TV, A.J. has admitted that he’s a big fan of Zayn’s former fiancée, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards. The Backstreet Boy also proved that he’s a fan of Gigi Hadid by agreeing to appear with her on Lip Sync Battle.

Gigi Hadid must have really enjoyed competing on the show, because she couldn’t stop lip syncing. According to Just Jared, she recently posted a Snapchat video of herself singing Zayn’s new solo single, “Pillowtalk.” Gigi is working hard to help her boyfriend promote the sexy song after appearing alongside Zayn in the steamy “Pillowtalk” music video. Perhaps Gigi will convince her boyfriend to revisit his boy band days by rocking out with a few of the Backstreet Boys on a future episode of Lip Sync Battle.
Gigi Hadid obviously loves Zayn Malik’s music, and it looks like her boyfriend is also a big fan of her work. Gigi told Entertainment Tonight that Zayn Malik had a very positive reaction to her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue photo spread, which included a picture of Gigi rocking a white swimsuit that showed off quite a bit of under-boob.
“He obviously liked the pictures,” Gigi said.
According to People, Gigi revealed that the unusual white maillot above was Zayn’s favorite of the more than half-a-dozen swimsuits that she wore during her Sports Illustrated photoshoot.
It’s pretty safe to bet that Zayn Malik is also a fan of the cleavage-baring black catsuit that Gigi Hadid wore during her Lip Sync Battle showdown with Tyler Posey. You can watch the swimsuit model and Scott McCall face off when the show airs this Thursday, February 25, at 10 p.m. ET on Spike TV.
