Shannon, I'm not arguing with you about whether it's all ridiculous (I think it is all ridiculous, sad and angering), just pointing out that the reporter in this story did not claim he was the joker as you stated, she simply noted the available information from police reports and stories verified by other news agencies. If reporters didn't report on information received from official reports, witnesses, etc stories would read like this. "A man entered a bank on Jan. 1 and stuff happened."

Actually the New York City Police Commissioner is claiming third-hand information and is the only named source that the suspect is calling himself the Joker. That has not stopped a sensationalistic press from using this convenient movie tie-in and running with it as gospel however. Aurora Police Chief Oates will not confirm or deny any statement has been made by the suspect and categorically denies that the suspect was costumed as the Joker. It was widely known for months in advance that the midnight premieres of this movie would be sellouts and therefore a guaranteed packed house will likely turn out to be the only real link to the maniac's plans.

I believe you are incorrect. The Joker NEVER had red hair in the comics. In the very beginning (Batman #1) the Joker's hair was dark with a tinge of green, which later grew to be more green prominent. I've read nearly every issue of the various Batman comic series up to current, and the Joker has never had red hair. Not even in a disguise.

There's also a difference between his Jimmy Olsen red hair and the red wig that Ledger wore in the movie. This article was mostly written out of sensationalistic journalism based off third party accounts. If anything, the psycho was pretending to be Bane what with his body armor and shock/awe terror attack. While it might possibly be true that he did claim he was "channeling" the Joker, comparisons used in this article are poorly chosen.

Thank you Blair…….Im not a big Batman devotee but I never recalled any of the jokers in my memory to have had red hair…..heaths hair was somewhat yellowish tint. I am NO way defending this guy at all but I would prefer that journalists start reporting the news as it appears rather than to do their own" creative writing course from home" final project- with the facts of the case. Of course this mindless dribble was accompanied by candid photo's of victim's and victim's family members in shock and the firm grips of hysteria, not only because of what just happened but also because some asshole has a camera in their face and is now badgering them about mundane details like how many shots they heard, or what part of the movie it happened during. Leave these poor people alone you heartless savages, at least give them a couple weeks to come to grips with the reality of the situation. Besides, if all you vultures are patient in six months or so you can learn all they need to know about it from the made for TV movie.

The theater door should have been locked where no one but those exiting could use it. Someone left the door open, perhaps Holmes himself, earlier, so that later he could come and go as he pleased. Actually Shannon, Cesar Romero, who played "the joker" in the 60's Batman DID have dyed red hair. Actually, Helms dye job was pretty darn close to the color of Cesar's hair. Additionally, Helms told police that he was "the joker". Why do you have such a hard time with the association to Batman? Also it is hearsay that he said he was the Joker, no actual police reports or information were provided that Holmes ever said such a thing. (Thus why the article says he allegedly said he was the joker ) And I was bringing to light that most news outlets were using the school ID in place of a mugshot until one was released which made him look as if he was smiling after committing those crimes. Simple people would assume that picture was a mugshot which is incriminating to the public eye. If Cesar Romero ever had red hair at any point in that short-lived TV show,it must have been a fluke, because he most definitely had green hair in the show. If Holmes wanted to play the Joker, why on earth would he choose the look of a brief mistake in a 1960s TV show, instead of the usual look of the character in 73 years of comics?

Elizabeth Marsh Bloom , the Joker character has been around for over 70 years. for a brief time, a tv show in the 60s got his hair colour wrong. In every other appearance for 70 years he has had green hair. Sir. I want you to look into the Bat Man comic :The Dark Knight of a character by the name of Arnold Crumb. This character was not the joker, but appeared in the bat man series as a tall but young male with RED HAIR who begins to shoot innocent people in an open THEATER. This is the character of persona, James holmes, and the "joker" being his erroneous response to have the police investigate further. Rigging his house with bombs believing he is clever, but he's just a nut case and clearly deranged psychopath.

kevbelz, the joker has had green hair for 72 years. there do seem to have been some promo shots of romero with orange hair that come up when you google it, but his hair was GREEN in the 60s tv show, just like it has been everywhere else. take five seconds to look up any video on youtube. it was a great show, but it ran for two seasons 25 years after these characters were created, and that was almost 50 years ago. it does not define the characters. no one is conspiring against you—well, maybe just reality. i hope i didn't make you feel dumb . . .

Shannon, most comic book villians pick erroneous names that still picked some what of a character for their whacky persona. at least in the comic books that is the layout. I think him saying the joker was a ruse to get officials and people worked up by going to his house, first response, and getting blown up with chemical bombs. But I think if you look very carefully at the dark knight comic in which arnold crimb attacked people in a theater after batman's reappearance after 10 years in the comic series, makes a HUGE difference. and connecting the Joker to this comic is as easy as connecting any character name to their comic book series . Just LOOK at it okay? before you knock it. check out the facial expressions of James Holmes in court, look at the comic book and watch carefully at the young criminals eyes. This is PURE Indication that James homes is FAKING his weariness and such indiciation would define this man as not insane, but infact a sick twisted but sane individual. The idea of him saying "the joker" could easily and simply be him trying to cause a panic, which unfortunately enough , he has.

if he was so keen to blow up people with his apartment why did he warn cops he had it rigged? Also the only person to say the Holmes guy said he was the joke is a law enforcement official from New York who is not involved with the case whatsoever. And also Margaret the Joker when he had red hair in the Dark Knight movie was wearing a wig… if Holmes was going off that Joker why not wear a wig, or nurse uniform or attack with bombs, since that was the MO of that Joker? There is nothing in connection with the Joker or Batman in general besides the fact that he attacked during a batman movie showing, and the New York person who said"he said he was the joker'' leaking that RUMOR which has not been substantiated by the actual investigators that I know of.

Also Miguel, I worked at a comic book shop for almost 7 years… I also collect various comic related items. I know Batman front and back, and Ironman and Spiderman and whatever you can throw at me lol. I own the first appearance comic of the Silver Surfer and have met J. Scott Campbell and the like. I know what you are saying but it is still really grasping at straws since they haven't said for a fact he actually claimed to be the joker. The news is drumming up panic from what I can see.

A few things that I would like the news journalists to explain.

One gas mask was found in the car with James Holmes and another one was discarded at the far end outside of the theater.

Police audio recordings from that night mention a second person getting away.

Police audio describes two mwn dressed in blacl. One carry a black backpack and another with a red backpack.

Eyewitnesses on the scene mention that that two people were involved.

Blood trails leading from the theater back door run far past Holmes car. Why?

In the photos of the theater back door there is a police riot shield laying on the ground. Where did that come from?

Holmes' "alleged" car has Tennessee license plates although he was from San Diego, CA and was going to school in Colorado.

All court records and university records have been sealed.

In jail Holmes in saying he doesn't remember anything and in the courtroom he appeared to be heavily drugged.. what really happened.

The gas mask was found on the far end of the building…by all eyewitness accounts, the guy who got the call and opened the EE was NOT Holmes, and the shooter was noticably shorter than Holmes….there is much to doubt about the official story. Even a marine explosives specialist would have a hard time rigging up an apartment like that..the whole official 'story' stinks to high heaven. I don't even think Holmes was the shooter anymore. He was MK-Ultra'd.
