‘Star Wars’ Theme Park: Harrison Ford Reveals Plans For Disney Park

Last year, Disney announced their plans to build Star Wars land expansions to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. The news was met with excitement by fans of the Star Wars franchise. There was much speculation about what the expansion would look like and what’s in store for visitors to the theme parks. Yesterday, February 21, Disney revealed the first look of the Star Wars lands, and it was presented by none other than Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford.

On Sunday, ABC aired a special two-hour tribute to Disney’s first-ever theme park entitled The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60. It was there that plans for the Star Wars theme park were revealed. The introduction by Harrison Ford sure got fans excited about the upcoming additions to the Disney theme parks.

Star Wars is, for lack of a better word… awesome.

“I’m so blessed that I had the opportunity to be a part of it. To walk these iconic locations. And soon, you’ll be able to do that as well. Not in a galaxy far, far away, but in a place close to home.”

The teaser started with several clips from the movie and then ventured into the first look of the Star Wars experience, including concept artworks and concept rendering of what’s to come, as Digital Spy reported.

As the video revealed, guests will be able to have complete control of the Millennium Falcon, steering it left and right while firing laser cannons. In addition, there was also a mention of the cantina, an “otherworldly street market, actually tasting the local delicacies and going upscale at the planet’s best dinner club,” according to the Orlando Sentinel.

As reported last year, the expansions for the Star Wars experience span 14 acres. There is no word yet when the theme park will be open to the public, only that it will be done within the next several years. Reports also say that construction on the land has already started.

It seems that Star Wars fans will have to patiently wait to experience an intergalactic adventure, but Disney also has other Star Wars treats in store in the near future. How near? April 4, a month before May 4, also known as Star Wars day.

According to the Disney Parks blog, The Force will awaken at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on April 4, and the theme park has plenty in store for Star Wars fans of all ages. The post says that a new Star Wars stage show will be debuting entitled Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away. In addition, there will also be appearances from your favorite Star Wars characters such as Darth Maul, Darth Vader, and Kylo Ren.

For those who want a spectacular evening, the Star Wars fireworks show, called “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” will surely not disappoint. Completing the setting for the pyrotechnics will be backdrops of various Star Wars locations that will be projected.

The “Star Tours” also has some new additions from the latest Star Wars film. You can view props, costumes, and memorabilia from all the Star Wars films.
