Over the years, YouTube has become one of the most popular platforms for video uploading and sharing. As a matter of fact, it is through YouTube many individuals have found fame and, to an extent, some form of fortune. Just to understand how big someone on YouTube, or any video social media platform, can become, the 38th season of The Amazing Race consists of contestants who are popular though social media platforms. Just off of YouTube alone, Tyler Oakley, Korey Kuhl, Burnie Burns, Ashley Jenkins, Erin Robinson, Joslyn Davis, Dana Borriello, Matt Steffanina, Blair Fowler, Brodie Smith, and Kurt Gibson make up more than half of the cast.
The aforementioned YouTubers became popular because of the creative content they constantly put out. However, there are a plethora of YouTubers who become popular simply by circumstance and chance. Michelle Dobyne was a prime example of this when her news interview went viral in a situation similar to Sweet Brown. Yet, the most popular-by-accident videos are the ones involving pets. In this case, Paula Mendes uploaded a video of teaching her dog how to meow. Within three days, it became a viral sensation.

Paula Mendes uploaded a video of her training her dog how to meow on Friday, February 19, 2016. Since its upload, the video has gone viral with over 721,000 viewers watching within that span of time. More than 8,000 of those viewers have liked how Mendes tried, and succeeded, in teaching her dog how to meow. However, there were some people who expressed disdain watching video, just a little fewer than 800. Guess they were not fans of dogs not acting like dogs.
As an added honor, the video of Paula Mendes teaching her dog how to meow is currently on the #PopularOnYouTube list, sitting at the comfy position of number 15. For those who want to watch this viral 21-second video making its rounds online, it has been attached below.
As shown in the video above, a woman who might be Paula Mendes is kneeling before her pet dog. In a light-toned voice, she asks her dog to meow for her. Unfortunately, the dog does not understand and barks. After a soft rebuke, Mendes asks her dog to once again meow. The second attempt was a failure, but the dog’s third attempt proved successful as the dog actually meowed. As a reward, the dog received a treat to enjoy. Just before the video ends, the dog successfully meows one more time to get one more treat before the cut-off.
It is amazing such a video would gain viral popularity, but it appears YouTube has become a collective basin for entertaining videos pertaining to pets. For example, one pet owner is teaching his dog the act of “intense discipline” by stacking cookie and meat treats for dogs on his dog’s head. However, the dog remains still. Videos of pets failing as well as acting strange are very popular too.
To be frank, Paula Mendes’ video may have just given her fame on YouTube, but it will most likely be 15 minutes. All it will take is for the next popular pet video to come around to replace her, something the YouTube community, especially those who love pet videos, are looking forward to.
