‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Rebecca Herbst Contract Still In Limbo–Fans Launch A Petition To Keep Elizabeth Webber In Port Charles

General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Rebecca Herbst may not be sticking around the ABC soap opera for long. It looks like her contract talks have hit a major snag, and it is probable that Becky could choose to walk away if the show doesn’t meet her demands. There is no word what the accomplished daytime actress is looking for in her newest contract.

Petition Buzz revealed on Friday that Rebecca’s fans launched a campaign to save Herbst alter ego, Elizabeth Webber from leaving the show. General Hospital fans have been in a frenzy after Daytime Confidential hinted at Rebecca’s rumored exit. For some time, the GH fans have voiced their opinion on social media that the show is shelving many veterans to showcase the younger characters.

Rebecca has remained silent on if she plans to leave the ABC soap opera, or stay for another year. Typical of Herbst, she showed that she is a true professional by not responding this week when ABC executive producer, Nathan Varni Facebook private messages were posted to groups, showing that he placed all the blame on her contract dispute on her. In the end, Varni claimed that his Facebook was compromised; however, he would no longer respond to private messages since his messages were publically released. His comments left fans scratching their heads– it wasn’t clear if he was the one who sent the private messages or if he was upset about being outed as talking about actor’s contract with fans, which is a violation of ABC current policy.

Soap Central posted that if Rebecca Herbst decided to leave General Hospital, many fans would not want to see a recast, at least not for a while. The rumor was that Liz Webber would leave her children with Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Billy Miller) Morgan to raise. The ending for Nurse Webber bothered many of fans, because no matter how you feel about Liz, she tries her hardest to be a good mother. How can the fans accept that Liz would leave her kids in the hands of someone that she only recently decided to drop the hatch and get along? It hardly makes sense and seems like a terrible way to end Rebecca Herbst’s run as Elizabeth Webber.

General Hospital has a habit of letting great talent slip through their fingers and seem unable to haggle with them to negotiate better contract terms. Last year, General Hospital lost Anthony Geary after his contract talks went South, and just recently, Jason Thompson left the show after being disappointed in the way Dr. Patrick Drake had been written in 2015. Jason moved to The Young and the Restless to portray Billy Abbott. It is looking more possible that Rebecca Herbst could be the next person to leave the show.

General Hospital fans are still hoping that Rebecca and the show can come to an agreement that would allow her to stick around another year. Becky has so much potential in the series, even without a Jason Morgan storyline. For example, she could be the love interest for Dr. Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen). There are multiple possibilities for her character–if only the network is willing to work with her and meet her needs.

Rebecca Herbst has a bright future, whether she stays on General Hospital or not. ABC seemed to underestimate the power of her massive fan base, and may not be prepared for the backlash they could receive if Herbst leaves the show. At any rate, if she does decide to go, another soap will scoop her up quickly. After all, it is rumored she could be the next Abby Devereaux on Days of Our Lives.
