Gwen Stefani Explains Live Music Video Fall, Admits New Song Is About Blake Shelton

Gwen Stefani partnered with Target to become the first-ever performer to film a live music video during a four-minute commercial break, according to E! Online.

The live music video was shot for Gwen Stefani’s new single called “Make Me Like You,” and it looks like the 46-year-old singer still cannot believe that it actually happened.

Confessing to Jimmy Kimmel on his talk show on Tuesday that she still cannot believe that she had actually done it, Gwen Stefani revealed that it “was a trip.”

“They’d been talking about it since Christmas and planning it. Every little detail counts. There’s hundreds of people working there.”

Gwen Stefani also told Kimmel that she personally worked on it for only about six days, but from “7 in the morning ’til 3 in the morning,” so the schedule was quite intense for the singer.

Kimmel then pressed Gwen Stefani with questions about who is the love interest that she sings about in her “Make Me Like You” song. Joking around, Kimmel noted that the former No Doubt singer had a neon sign that said Blake’s, and asked whether it was Blake Lively or Blake Griffin.

Gwen Stefani tried to wriggle out by telling Kimmel that she has no idea who it is about and that it was all just a coincidence.

“I don’t know why they put that. That was weird.”

But then, Kimmel asked point blank if the song is about Blake Shelton, and Gwen Stefani laughed, answering.

“It is, actually. I will admit that that song is about that guy, yeah.”

Gwen Stefani, standing on the Samsung stage in front of the audience, then gave an outstanding performance of her song about Blake Shelton to close Kimmel’s talk show for the evening. It was noted by Hollywood Life that the singer looked very happy delivering this song, “obviously” having Shelton on her mind and a smile on her face the entire time she was on stage.

Even though Gwen Stefani was remembered at this Monday’s Grammy Awards by her live music video, there was also one thing that made the “Make Me Like You” singer’s fans talk about her after the show was over.

In particular, it was Gwen Stefani’s alleged fall. But in the interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she made sure that her fans are not left confused by the fall. Explaining the fall scene that could be seen during her “Make Me Like You” performance, she said that there was actually a stunt double.

“Everybody thinks that was me, but there was a stunt double. We did that on purpose so people would go, ‘Oh, my God! It’s live and she fell’.”

Gwen Stefani also said that recording her new album was both a depressing and healing experience, since it largely involved the emotions Stefani went through after the break up with her then husband Gavin Rossdale, as reported by Xpose.

The 46-year-old mother of three sons – Kingston, 9, Zuma, 7, and 23-month-old Apollo – provided a couple of details about the recording process of her third solo LP This Is What the Truth Feels Like, which is centered around Gwen Stefani’s divorce from Rossdale.

Gwen Stefani revealed that the entire experience proved to be very cathartic, and she said that the album became more than just “music” to her. In fact, Stefani insists that she solidified a crucial moment in her life in this album’s music.

Describing the process, she said that she feels victorious.

“It feels victorious, you know what I mean, and it represents so much more than just music. It’s my life and such an amazing process.”
