Happy Birthday, Gisele Bündchen!

Happy birthday, Gisele! Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen is celebrating her 32nd birthday today.

The model, who has been married to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady since 2009, was the first in a line of Brazilian models to enjoy international success. In the past, she’s been linked with the likes of actor Leonardo DiCaprio, but has now settled down to family life with Brady and their son, Benjamin. The couple are expecting a second child later this year.

Gisele is credited by many fashion pundits with ending the ‘heroin chic’ look of the ’90s – indeed, in 1999, Vogue magazine famously described her emergence as ‘The Return of the Sexy Model.’

From 2000 onwards, Bündchen was one of Victoria’s Secret Angels from 2000, and since 2004 has been the highest-paid model around – her estimated $150 million fortune made her the sixteenth richest woman in the entertainment industry, as of 2007. Previous estimates have stated that Bündchen and Brady are the highest-earning couple in the world.

All of which is in stark contrast to her humble beginnings. Previously, the supermodel has revealed to Vogue how her and her five sisters had an impoverished childhood:

“We slept in bunk beds and every time anyone wanted a shower, it was like, me first, me first! Sometimes my sisters and I would share one together to save time.”
