Andrew Luck Signs With Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have officially signed No. 1 draft pick Andrew Luck as their new quarterback, just in time for training camp, which will begin on July 29th at the Anderson University campus in Anderson, Indiana.

While the details of the contract have not emerged yet, The Star Press reports that Luck was expected to sign a fully guaranteed four-year contract, which will be worth about $22 million, along with a $14 million signing bonus.

Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indy Colts, stated in late April that he expected the contract to mirror Cam Newton’s, who was the 2011 overall top pick. The deal has come together just one day after Robert Griffin III, another rookie quarterback, signed his four-year deal with the Washington Redskins, reports Yahoo News. His deal is worth $21.1 million, and includes an option for a fifth year.

According to The Star Press, Luck makes the eighth of the Colts’ 10 draft picks to either sign his rookie contract or agree to terms. Now, the only remaining draft picks who are unsigned are Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, both tight ends.

Andrew Luck is the Colts’ focal point as they move into a new era minus Peyton Manning, who was released by the team in March, despite being the NFL’s only four-time MVP. Peyton will begin life with the Denver Broncos this fall.

NFL.com and NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported the news first, but Irsay was able to follow it up with a confirmation on Twitter, along with a picture of Andrew Luck signing the contract:

Luck, a two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up, has been working out with his teammates following their conclusion of team-structured activities in June. He passed workouts with teammates Reggie Wayne, Donnie Avery and Griff Whalen at the University of Miami last week.
