Kathie Lee Gifford’s Stunning Reveal: She Wrote A Musical, And It’s Headed For Broadway

Who knew she had it in her? Kathie Lee Gifford has apparently been working on a musical these past 13 years, and it’s just about ready for its Broadway debut.

Kathie Lee Gifford stood with the co-hosts of “Today” on the plaza, poised to make a big announcement Thursday morning, reports the Huffington Post. “I can’t even believe the words are coming out of my mouth today,” she said. “A lot of weird words have come out of my mouth over the years, but we’re announcing today that a musical I’ve been writing for going on 13 years now will be coming to Broadway this fall.”

The musical is titled “Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson,” and is based on the true story of an evangelist and broadcasting pioneer, set in the 1920s. Of the musical’s subject, Kathie Lee noted that she was “the most amazing woman that I’ve ever read about or studied,” and that “there’s still great mystery about her.” Kathie Lee added that she was “scandalous beyond belief.”

Kathie Lee co-wrote the show, which will star Carolee Carmello. According to MSNBC, Kathie Lee noted that she had a hand in the casting of the leading man, Ed Watts. The show is set to open on November 15 at the Neil Simon Theater, with the box office opening August 20th. More information on the show, including ticket information, can be found here.

I have to admit, I’m not sure what to think here. Then again, I’m not a huge Kathie Lee Gifford fan, so I turn to you. Do you think KLG’s musical can hack it? Sound off in the comments below!
