Paul McCartney Denied Entrance To Tyga’s Grammy Party

Music fans everywhere are wondering if Tyga is completely out of touch with the music world. The rapper is a big name these days, but he doesn’t seem to know much about rock icons like Paul McCartney, who was winning Grammys before Tyga was born. The Daily Mail, describing McCartney as “one of the most successful composers and performers of all time,” reported that the former Beatle was denied entrance to Tyga’s Grammy party on Monday evening.

McCartney, 73, was out after the Grammys award ceremony, looking for a party along with two other rock legends and close friends, Beck and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Tyga’s Grammy party at Hollywood’s Argyle club seemed like a good destination for the three musicians, and they never considered that the host might not want them.

TMZ reported that Beck, Hawkins, and McCartney’s Grammy party plans were turned upside down when the bouncers at the club wouldn’t let them in. Worse yet, it didn’t happen only once. McCartney tried a second time to gain entrance to Tyga’s Grammy party, clearly believing the bouncers had made a mistake. After all, with so many A-list stars, it’s easy to overlook one!

One Twitter user exploded in wrath at the slight offered to McCartney, saying that it was “so wrong on so many levels.”

Onlookers said that the bouncers “didn’t seem to know who they were talking to” when McCartney arrived at Tyga’s party, and they didn’t take the time to find out either. After Paul’s second attempt to gain entrance, he decided it just wasn’t worth it and left with Beck and Hawkins to find another Grammy party to attend. McCartney saw the irony of the situation, irony that according to Spin was “lost to approximately no person.” Paul joked with the others that none of them were VIP enough to be allowed into Tyga’s party, despite the 20 Grammys that McCartney collected over the years.

“How VIP do we gotta get?”

Paul had a solution to the problem though. He thought the three legends should come up with a new McCartney-Beck-Hawkins hit song together.

“We need another hit, guys. We need another hit. Work on it!”

Beck replied to the suggestion, “Next year!” as they walked away to find another Grammy party. Beck’s album, Morning Phase, won the Album of the Year award at the 2015 Grammys.

Tyga didn’t express any concern for the way McCartney was treated at his party and didn’t offer an explanation, although he did acknowledge Paul’s importance in the rock world. Tyga admitted that McCartney was “a legend” but didn’t give the impression that Paul’s legendary status and multiple Grammys were a reason to let him into the Grammy gathering.

Tyga’s friend Bow Wow, who, according to OK! magazine, ran into troubles as the Grammys pre-show host, heard afterwards about McCartney’s rejection from Tyga’s shindig. The rapper expressed a lot more concern than Tyga seemed to feel.

“Wait. The Paul McCartney came to Argyle… and they wouldn’t let him in? You’ve got to be lying.’

Bow Wow suggested that it was understandable that the bouncers didn’t recognize McCartney. He said that he and Tyga, both in their 20s, are from a “new generation” that are the usual crowd at the trendy club, and so are the bouncers.

Paul and friends ended up at Hyde Sunset Kitchen + Cocktails, and later on, actor Woody Harrelson joined their party after his night out at the Grammys. McCartney’s tour this summer is still on, and Paul hasn’t decided to cancel plans because of any fears he might not be well known enough to the younger generation. He’ll be headlining at the Netherlands’ Pinkpop festival and at Rock Werchter in Belgium.
