Tori Kelly Gives Taylor Swift Side Eye At The 2016 Grammy Awards

Tori Kelly didn’t appear to be too enthusiastic when Taylor Swift took to the stage to accept her tenth career Grammy for Album of the Year at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards on February 15.

Several viewers took to social media as Swift accepted her award to post screen captures of Kelly’s less-than-impressed face as she looked on from the audience, while Taylor appeared to take aim at Kanye West during her acceptance speech.

Swift used her big moment in the Grammy spotlight, during which time she picked up her third Grammy of the night, to take a subtle jab at West following the misogynistic claims he made about about her in his new track, “Famous.”

“As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there are going to be people who along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” Swift said while accepting the Album of the Year award for 1989.

“But if you just focus on the work, and you don’t let those people side-track you, someday when you get where you are going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there,” Taylor Swift continued. “And that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

Kelly has, so far, stayed tight lipped on her reaction to Swift’s speech on social media, but while it appeared that Tori may not have been feeling the love for Taylor Swift, she was spreading the love for Meghan Trainor.

Tori Kelly took to Twitter following the music awards show to graciously congratulate Meghan after she took home the award for Best New Artist, for which Tori was also nominated.

“@meghan_trainor CONGRATS BEAUTIFUL [sic],” Tori Kelly wrote on the 140-character site, alongside four heart emojis.

Though Tori has noticeably stayed quiet about the rest of Grammy debut on the social media site, Kelly’s fans certainly haven’t stayed quite so tight lipped when voicing their opinions on who should have taken home the Best New Artist award.

“Where’s the Grammy for @ToriKelly / @JamesBayMusic?? [sic],” @sam_concepcion tweeted out following Tori Kelly’s big performance, while Kelly fan @laxasraven posted a short clip of Tori’s performance and wrote “watch this then try and tell me she didn’t deserve that Grammy.”

Sam Dekker also voiced his opinions on Tori Kelly’s loss on the 140-character site, tweeting out following the ceremony, “and @ToriKelly got robbed of a Grammy tonight.. many to come in the future!”

But despite not winning on the night, Kelly, who performed with fellow Best New Artists nominee James Bay, appeared a little more enthusiastic when she hit the red carpet for the 58th Grammy Awards, where she that she was “excited” for “a fun night.”

“It’s my first time ever at the Grammys too,” Tori Kelly revealed during the academy’s red carpet live stream, “so I’m just trying to soak it all in.”

Prior to making her debut at the show, Tori revealed during a Grammy nomination interview that being nominated for Best New Artist was “a huge deal” for her.

“It’s all the newcomers, it’s all the people that have worked so hard just to get some sort of recognition,” Kelly revealed in the nominee interview profile. “We’re all kind of in that same boat, it’s the next generation of faces in music.”
