Comcast Outage: Internet And TV Services Go Down Across The U.S.

If you are a Comcast user — subscribed to both their Internet as well as cable TV services — chances are high that you might have been affected by a major service outage earlier today. According to WGN-TV, Comcast users across the United States faced a massive outage for a few hours. While the reason for the nationwide Comcast outage is not known, Comcast officials reiterated that the outage did not impact all its customers. They also added that several other offerings from the company were unaffected by this nationwide outage. A Comcast official in an interview to CNN Money reiterated the following.

“It looks like it was a number of markets, but not all customers/not all services were impacted.”

Following the Comcast outage, social media was ablaze with complaints from several users who were affected by the issue. The official Twitter handle for Comcast — @comcastcares — has been facing angry tweets from users who were unhappy at the outage. To make matters worse, Twitter users claimed that the service hotline for Comcast wasn’t accessible, and support agents were inaccessible during the time of the outage. Most of the users claimed that none of Comcast’s HD and TV channel offerings were working. Several others reported of a beeping noise from their phones, and added that Internet services were down. The Xfinity service was also affected by the Comcast outage, initial reports said.

Comcast issued two statements after the extent of the outage became evident. The first statement released at 12:30 p.m. E.T. read as follows.

“We’re continuing to investigate what appears to be a temporary network interruption that impacted some of our services this morning. Our engineers have been working on this and services are starting to be restored. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers.”

The statement did not provide any information as to what caused the outage and how many customers were impacted by it. However, data from social media trends and initial reports say that more than 17,000 confirmed outage reports were reported between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Central Time on Monday. Some embedded tweets from people who were unhappy with the Comcast outage follow.

Comcast boasts of providing their services to over 27 million customers with more than 89,000 people who signed up for their cable services just last year.

By 1:30 p.m, ET, Comcast issued another statement in which it claimed that services were back to normal for most customers. It read as follows.

“We have repaired the temporary network interruption that impacted some of our services this morning. Our engineers continue to work on this issue and almost all services have already been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers.”

Comcast had also issues their official statements on Twitter using their @ComcastCares account. We have embedded a few tweets from them, as well.
