According To Morgan Freeman, Criminalization Of Weed Is The “Stupidest Law Possible”

Morgan Freeman sounds off on a variety of topics in a recent Newsweek interview

The various laws that keep marijuana illegal are the dumbest ones on the books, according to the voice of God, Morgan Freeman.

Freeman has been a highly vocal advocate for the legalization of marijuana for a long time now, and once again stressed his belief that weed should be legalized in a recent interview with Newsweek. Here’s what the Dark Knight Rises star had to say about it:

“Marijuana! Heavens, oh yeah. It’s just the stupidest law possible, given history. You don’t stop people from doing what they want to do, so forget about making it unlawful. You’re just making criminals out of people who aren’t engaged in criminal activity. And we’re spending zillions of dollars trying to fight a war we can’t win! We could make zillions, just legalize it and tax it like we do liquor. It’s stupid.”

Freeman didn’t stop there. The interview went on to cover a wide-variety of topics, according to the Huffington Post. He also waxed-philosophical about the hot-button issue of same-sex marriage.

“I grew up in the South but I started dancing in my twenties when I got out of the Air Force, and studying dance, you’re surrounded by gay guys all the time. You get to know them and you have to shift gears!” Freeman said of his views on same-sex marriage.

Freeman also sounded off on the highly-public divorce of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. To add context, Freeman worked with Holmes on Batman Begins (she was the original Rachel… remember?) and just wrapped Oblivion with Tom Cruise. Addressing rumors that he found Cruise’s treatment of Holmes “disgusting,” Freeman clarified:

“That’s just reporters; that has nothing to do with me. I don’t recall any knowledge of how Katie was even treated. I don’t know anything about it, really, and I certainly never commented on it!”

Furthermore, after recently working with Tom Cruise, Freeman had several flattering things to say about him:

“I wrapped filming on that two months ago but he’s such a total professional. He’s a really sweet human being and very generous. He’s also very giving as an actor and even more giving as a person. I like him a lot.”

Morgan Freeman can be seen in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated threequel to his Batman series, The Dark Knight Rises, when it opens this week.

  1. Jury Nullification is a constitutional doctrine that allows juries to acquit defendants who are technically guilty but do not deserve punishment. – All non-violent 'drug offenders' who are not selling to children – be they users, dealers or importers – clearly belong in this category.

If you sincerely believe that prohibition is a dangerous and counter-productive policy, then you must stop helping to enforce it. You are entitled to act according to your conscience: Acquit the defendant/s if you feel that true justice requires such a result. You, the juror, have the very last word!

    * It only takes one juror to prevent a guilty verdict.
    * You are not lawfully required to disclose your voting intention before taking your seat on a jury.
    * You are also not required to give a reason to the other jurors on your position when voting – simply state that you find the accused not guilty.
    * Jurors must understand that it is their opinion, their vote. If the Judge and the other jurors disapprove, too bad. There is no punishment for having a dissenting opinion.

“It is not only [the juror's] right, but his duty … to find the verdict according to his own best understanding, judgment, and conscience, though in direct opposition to the direction of the court.” – John Adams.

We must create what we can no longer afford to wait for – PLEASE VOTE TO ACQUIT!
