NYC Storm Photos Flood Twitter

Severe thunderstorms rolled across the north east today, and one seemed to purposefully target New York City.

A photo taken by Dhani Jones as he took off from Laguardia Airport shows a terrifying storm isolated over the city.

Jones writes on Instagram:

“#stormcoming #nyc #isolated I’ve never seen a storm so concentrated. The power of mother nature!”

The Washington Post reports that Severe Thunder Storm Warnings were issued in the area. The National Weather service expects some locations to experience hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and winds up to 70 mph.

The National Weather service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey until at least 9 pm. tonight.

On the bright side, those powerful storms make for some great photos.

Jones’ photo quickly spread around the internet and was picked about outlets like ABC and the Wallstreet Journal, but it wasn’t the only NYC storm photo to amaze Twitter today.

Instagram and Twitter were quickly flooded with pictures of the incoming storm.

Here’s Jones’ photo of the NYC Storm.

This photo was taken by Inga Sarda-Sorensen.

Here’s another by Joseph Galbo.

The Eastern United States was pummeled with thunderstorms last month. At least 6 people were killed during the storms and millions were left without power.
