Just when it looked like Jessica Biel was set to take over the action world, Biel has decided to end talks to star in James Mangold’s The Wolverine. It was initially reported that Biel would star as Viper, the sexy  action hero that goes head to head with Wolverine. However, after having announced that Jessica Biel was in negotiations with 20th Century Fox, the studio recently said that those talks have stopped. It is said that 20th Century Fox is now perusing other actresses to play the role of Viper.

This role is physically demanding and calls for an engaging and seriously attractive female lead. The role is said to be complex in its relationship to Wolverine, following a forced marriage through blackmail.  In addition, the role of Viper is said to be Eastern European descent. Biel would have been perfect for the role. Perhaps it was her summer wedding to singer Justin Timberlake that made her hesitant to sign on the dotted line.

Wolverine is said to start filming in Australia and later on in Japan next month. In addition, a few select Japanese actors have been taped in to play pivotal roles, such as Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi , Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima.

It is said that The Wolverine will follow the comic books which its named after, which follows Wolverine as he finds himself as an outsider in Japan. Sanada is said to play Shingen, who is a crime boss, and Yamanouchi is supposed to play Yashida who is the head of the Yashida clan. Wolverine’s fiance will be played by Okamoto.
