Xbox One Backwards Compatibility: Four New Games Launched By Microsoft

Microsoft recently launched four new games on Xbox One Backwards Compatibility this month in February, following the removal of Red Dead Redemption.

Microsoft confirmed on Friday that the four new titles released this month on Xbox One Backwards Compatibility are Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Trials HD, Sam & Max, Lego Batman: The Video Game, according to Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb.

Xbox 360 users who upgrade to a new console are allowed to use the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program where they are allowed to play their favorite titles. Before a game is released on the platform, it is tested by Microsoft and this might be a reason why Red Dead Redemption was accidentally released in the program.

With the removal, Microsoft is yet to reveal if the game will be a part of the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program, though talks between the two companies are already started.

Microsoft, after taking their game down from their program, added a mix of titles of Xbox 360 fans on February 11 including Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Lego Batman, Sam & Max: Beyond Time & Space, and Trials HD.

The announcement was made by Xbox’s Larry Hryb on Twitter, although the confirmation was somewhat overshadowed by the release of Quantum Break‘s launch date, which came moments before.

A new live-action trailer to celebrate the launch of Quantum Break was also released while the pre-order bonuses were also announced.

  • Every Xbox One Quantum Break pre-order made through the Xbox Store or participating retailers will get you a download code for the Windows 10 version of Quantum Break and Xbox One backwards compatible version of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.

An official Xbox Wire blog in January published, “Based on your feedback, the Xbox Engineering team will start to pilot a new way to launch Xbox One Backward Compatibility titles. Starting today, we’ll release titles as they become available, rather than a set monthly launch date.”

“What this means for you is that you won’t have to wait to find out the latest titles; we’ll release whatever is available, when they’re available, once each title has received the engineering and publisher stamp of approval.”

With the addition of around 10 more games in the catalog this month, the total number of games on Xbox One Backwards Compatibility has reached to over 130 while Microsoft has promised “hundreds” are still on the way.
